I come back to: Do you really want your highest paid player for the next three years to be a 36-38 year old pitcher that no longer gets his fastball consistently over 90mph?

I say no. It doesn't really make sense except as a way of protecting prospects.

Obviously not - His Highness has ordained it's not possible.

Everybody needs to stop wasting his time with such ridiculous ideas - he's obviously got so much on his plate that he doesn't have time to spend 18-20 hours a day here answering such stupid questions.

Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

When your current highest paid player is a 33 year old 3B with an extremely checkered injury history? Doesn't seem to look quite so bad then.

Would it be a gamble? Sure. The difference is that Greinke has consistently proven that he can be a front-line SP with his diminished velocity - we're not talking about Julio here. He still misses a lot of bats, still doesn't walk anybody, and still doesn't get squared up very often.

I wouldn't blow the farm for him either, but if they ate the deferred money he wouldn't need to be THAT good to earn what you'd be paying him. The bigger question is which one of the current staff menbers/prospects do you have more confidence in being a 200 IP, 3+ WAR Pitcher for the next 3 years? Like everybody else, I hope Folty, Gohara, Soroka, and Anderson could - but we don't have any guarantees they will.

To me, it's more about the realistic window being open from now through 2021 - after that you have to make a decision about how much production you hope to get from a potentially declining Freeman.

I'm wondering more and more about Piscotty... don't know if he's available but is a good bounce back candidate. Hard to believe he was easily focused on the game last year with his mom fighting and losing her battle with ALS

Edit: nevermind... 2017 was the down year... dang he was much better last year than I remembered

Did you really just compare paying JD for 1 year to paying Greinke for 3 years? Those are similar situations in your mind?

    Will the stupidity ever end?

You realize Donaldson is on a one year deal, right?

I think he's a good one to have. I would rather see him than joey Gallo that everyone keeps talking about.

Piscotty would be fine, I suppose, but he'd probably be pretty freaking pricey given that he is cheaply controllable through 2023. He's only making 28.5 million dollars through 2022 and has a 15 million dollar option for 2023 as well with a 1 million dollar buyout. He'd cost us an arm and a leg.

You're being sarcastic obviously but your posting logic makes me wonder sometimes. I've never seen someone compare such vastly and completely different things/ideas/situations to each other to justify his dumb ideas... it'd do wonders for you to listen to everyone on this board, swallow some pride, and learn a thing or two

people often talk about having an open mind...i think in a lot of situations sincerity is what is lacking when trying to look at things from a different perspective

You do realize you're nowhere close to that list of people, right?

I'm so upset that I don't make some of you people happy that I'm looking into therapy.
