4th in the East. I don’t understand. I thought spending all that money this off season on debt made us better. So FF ignoring pitching depth, 4th outfielder, and signing old dudes with question marks didn’t make us the favorites. This list has to be rigged.

This settles it... I'm cancelling my hotels and selling my tickets. If there's one damn thing you can chisel in stone, it's mlb preseason power rankings. Got damn it, AA!!!!

Being below the Mets is still funny to me. We'll be fine. AA definitely has been too conservative, but we'll be more than fine. I'd still add CK, though.

I wouldn't be worried. Signing Markakis will definitely allow us to use a lot of money elsewhere.

We weren’t defending NL east champs last year. I don’t give a rats ass about MLB rankings personally. But it is another publication that thinks FF did a poor job building on what we accomplished last year.

    from the article

Meanwhile, the NL East seems to be wide open, with the Braves, Phillies, Mets and Nationals all having improved from a year ago. The Phillies may be primed to take the biggest leap in the win column, after adding a crop of proven difference-makers in Bryce Harper, Jean Segura, J.T. Realmuto and Andrew McCutchen.

Our first Power Rankings of 2019 reflect the only concrete criteria available at this point -- how teams fared in '18, how much progress they made constructing their rosters during the offseason, and how healthy they are coming out of Spring Training

FG has the Braves ranked #11 with 83 projected wins, just 1 win below the Phils and essentially tied with the Mets (who are ranked #15).

I see nothing wrong with ranking the Braves #14 right now considering Folty, Gaus and Soroka are currently injured.

The Braves are still legit play off contenders, which hasn't been the case for a while entering the season.

Agreed. And while we all wanted someone like Brantley or any other real cOF it wouldn't have pushed the needle into the Braves being some on paper 90+ win juggernaut. There is nothing AA could/should have done to make that happen this offseason. For that to happen the Braves are going to need these SP prospects to come up and put together a really good rotation. And for players like Albies and Swanson do better on the offensive side of the ball. That has always been the case. And with the way the rotation is being set to start the year it looks like it's sink or swim time with these guys.

The Braves were ahead of schedule last year. The dumb thing to do would have been to say 'Oh, ok, our window is now open' and go 'all in' only to shorten the backside of that window. Stay the course; it's a good one, and we are beginning to see why.
"Acuna is getting lucky, just like CJ did when he batted .321 and won a batting title. He is unlikely to get lucky at the MLB level over an extended period of time. He will settle in around .300-.320 just like everyone else, and when he does, he won't be within shouting distance of the 1.000 OPS he is posting in AAA...more like low .700s in 2018." -Enscheff 8/25/17

i think this is mostly fair.
but at the same time, they could have upgraded cOF without sacrificing any part of their future. there were clear, obvious, attainable upgrades, and the FO decided not to improve that area. that's very disappointing.

I think the only cOF that they could conceivably have upgraded with without "sacrificing any part of their future" was Brantley. It's far from obvious that he would have signed the same deal in Atlanta. In fact, it's very improbable.

    McCutchen?
Pollock? Sure you lose a pick for him, but that isn't much. Maybe I should say "sacrificing no part or very little of your future." either way - opportunity was there to not go all-in for this year or risk cutting the window short. as has been said many times, markakis back as the RF is a failure.

Puig is also a CoF option that would have cost us nothing but financial obligations this year. We could have gotten wood/kemp/Puig for nothing more than money and some 40-45 run of the mill prospect.

i think the problem with puig, tho, is his severe reverse splits. i certainly would take him over neck, tho.
