The M's probably think they can flip Santana at the deadline when someone needs a bat and they can sweeten the deal by paying him down.

I could see AA having interest in Gamel as well. He represents a LHH 4th OF with normal splits who is average or better defensively in RF/LF.
Let’s just hope the JD signing doesn’t mean we are going to be watching a bargain bin Duvall/Gamel type platoon in LF. If that ends up happening then the JD contract was clearly a mistake made by a guy with a boner for a particular player.
I see the deal with the fillies now includes Nicasio and Pazos rather than Swarzak. So now I see it as a win for the fillies. They get a couple relievers with some value rather than one with negative surplus value.

Who was it that wanted Swarzak for the Braves last year?
Too bad this site only allows the search function to go back a month now.
The m fans are pissed. Rightfully so

Braves get: Mitch Haniger
White Sox get: Kyle Seager / Sean Newcomb / Kyle Mueller
M's get: Micker Adoflo / Kolby Allard
Man, it's disappointing to see PHI do so well in this trade . . . and I say that as someone who is fairly pessimistic on Segura's value. Crawford has looked noticeably bad at SS when I've seen him there, and the numbers don't look great either. To me, he's on the outside looking in when it comes to chances to be an everyday SS at the MLB level. I was hoping Santana would have been more of an albatross for PHI, but they found a real effective way to move on from that situation.

It’s a little bit like the SS that Atlanta got back in Simmons trade.
Thrown in by angels to make money work for them.
Braves were indifferent to additional salary in no. Contention season and probably figured they had a chance to flip him. Weren’t worried about it either way.
Santana little different because multiple years though.
The Mariners are idiots. That trade makes no sense for them. I can't fathom why they did it.
In all seriousness, what do you gents think the actual cost for Haniger would be?
The common theme to all the Ms trades have been shedding cash, and to have maximum payroll space for the 2021 season.
The team most likely to get Haniger will be the team willing to take on Bruce, Santana, Seager, Gordon or maybe Swarzak.
I could see a Haniger/Swarzak package making some sense for the Braves in exchange for MLB ready (or near ready) pitching. They could also shoehorn Bruce onto the roster as a 4th OFer and bench bat if the money could be worked out somehow. With Camargo and Culberson on the bench I see no way to fit the other guys.
