Seems like a fair-ish return for JTR.

I wouldn't have been too upset to see AA beat that package though.
Who do you believe it would have taken?

An undersized RHP in A ball with arm trouble is the headliner for the best catcher in baseball? Gross.

The Braves chose JD plus Mac or JTR, and removed any chance of getting a bargain on Grandal the moment they made that decision because of that plan. They had already committed the bulk o their cash to JD because they were happy with having Mac and MAYBE having JTR.

It doesn't take a sale engineer to understand how this was all related.

What seems obvious to me is that Donaldson was their #1 priority this offseason. they were super aggressive and took him off the market before his market began.

It doesn't seem like anything else was particularly a priority for them. There are zero indications they were in on the catching free agents (which is fine with me) and even Mish has them standing pat on something that looks like a low ball offer for Realmuto based on what the Marlins were looking for elsewhere. If you believe the Braves beat, they made an offer and walked away.

kudos to Derek Jeter for holding out for more even in the face of being called a moron.

Me thinks AA values our depth way too much.

I'm ok with this only in the sense that it seems AA doesn't get into bidding wars.

He has his valuation and sticks with it. I'm encouraged by all the young arms and there are always big names available in mid-season.

I understand it is a lot, but you have to give up talent to get talent. I’m sick and tired of hearing, next year is the year or we are ahead of schedule. Damn it we are there.

We won the ****ing division last year and had a real chance to do something, yet decided not to. Per DOB we are about $10m below last years opening payroll. We signed a guy who is a former MVP candidate but hasn’t been healthy is almost 3 years. McCann is a step down from Suzuki and Neck at best is same as last year. And I doubt he repeats.

We have the #9 and #21 picks in the draft this year. This was the year to make a splash and AA is sitting around with his thumb up his ass. He can **** off for all I care. He is committed to being mediocre.

8d rather just suck and get the draft picks. That way I can go watch Gwinnett

    Have to agree here.

The Marlins had AA's offer in their back pocket, and leveraged that to get exactly what they wanted...

A top prospect with true impact potential, and a young MLB catcher to directly replace JTR.

I don't think the Braves have a pitcher who is clearly more valuable than Sixto, and they certainly don't have a young MLB catcher to immediately replace JTR.

That's exactly what the Marlins were reported to be looking for the last couple months, and that's exactly what they got...even if it took forever to happen.

I have to imagine the package required to beat what the Phils gave up would have been pretty painful, and almost certainly deemed not worth it for a team with a $120M payroll. The Phils can afford to go out and sign a Corbin to replace the future production of a Sixto...the Braves can't.

Glad it is finally over and Austin is still a Brave. He will take over mid season when Donaldson is laid up.

It's becoming obvious that he at least values our players more than other teams seem to.

I hope our one upgrade/addition isn't injured. It would definitely be a wasted ofseason.

We need MVP Donaldson this year to make up for standing pat everywhere else.

I'm not saying the Braves should be going for it and throwing assets and resources around right this minute, but I don't agree with the idea that it is good the Phillies look to be taking their swings in the present frame.

Any moves that make another team in the division a favorite to finish ahead of the Braves is potentially knocking panes out of their window of contention.

When the Phillies need to go find that next catcher, they'll have dollars coming off their payroll And they'll have prospects to trade. So I wouldn't say they will be going away.

They seemed to do well in terms of prospect rankings, but to me they still took on too much risk. I think this turns out like Yelich all over again for the Marlins. JT will go on to Philly and put up monster numbers and nothing the Marlins got for him will pan out.

Sixto might well have a TJ before he gets to the Majors, but when it's over he'll probably still have plus stuff.

Teams don't really trade sure things much any more. They are the most valuable asset in the game.
