Me too....but he probably didn't make as much sense now because we essentially have 2 of him for cheaper in Culberson/Camargo....

Here are 2 scenarios to consider....

1.) You sign Josh Donaldson to a 1 year / $23m deal, Brian McCann to a 1 year $2m deal, and Markakis to a 1 year $6m deal...this moves Camargo to super utility along with Culberson

2.) You trade for JTR, sign Marwin Gonzalez to a 3 year $30m deal, and then sign Markakis to a 1 year / $6m deal, thus you have 3 super utility guys in Gonzalez, Camargo, and Culberson.

    Which team is better?

Providing us more depth, a quality bat, and the ability to play all over the diamond would be worth it for me. We still aren't completely sure that Camargo can play the outfield. I'm also not completely sure that Camargo isn't going to regress drastically this year against RHP. Bringing in a guy like Marwin would have allowed us to take a Dodgers-like approach to lineup construction. We can still do Dodgers-lite, but having Camargo/Gonzalez as our version of Taylor/Kike would have been pretty nice.

I'm not a big believer in Culberson. I like him, but I don't expect him to approach an .800 OPS again. I think ~.700 is more likely

Officially time to panic on Soroka:

Soroka’s shoulder is bothering him again. He felt some discomfort while lifting weights a month ago, but he was able to complete bullpens in pain-free fashion until this week. He’ll be restricted from throwing for another 4-5 days.

Shoulder issues are the worst for a pitcher

A month ago JTR wasn't traded. I'm sure we had a medical report of shoulder discomfort on record, right?

Sure. You think he gets traded without any medical examination?

I remember (I think) back in 89 or 90 Pete Smith dominating the Padres. He looked awesome, fastball moving all over the place. They couldn't touch him. Looked as good as Smoltz. Then shoulder injury. Never the same again.

Soroka’s shoulder issues are exactly why we should’ve traded Freeman.

Someone on these boards said that a shoulder issue is the worst case scenario for pitchers short of death or losing a limb.

Several others said it was no big deal. A sales engineer even said Soroka's issue was similar to the issue he faces by sitting at a computer all day.

As I have said for months, Soroka needs to immediately be sent to a MiLB roster so he stops burning service time if/when these shoulder issues keep popping up. Assuming, of course, that his service time ever ends up being consequential.

Has it sunk in for everyone yet why building around pitching prospects was a terrible idea from the start?

How much more do we have to see before folks wake up and understand how poor of an investment pitching is?

Now quick, someone jump in to say something as stupid as, "it's just an imbalance", or, "it isn't anything wrong with the rotator cuff".

This is the reason they stockpile pitching though. They know for every 10 pitching prospects maybe one will make it as a viable starting option.

    No...

They should stockpile position prospects, who maintain their value better, and then use those assets to acquire MLB-ready pitchers as needed.

It seems folks still aren't going to learn why stockpiling pitching prospects is a bad idea.

If you're going to rebuild you should stockpile both, with emphasis on position prospects.
