I was saying this sorta tongue in cheek considering the affinity for advanced metrics around here. Their value isn't that much different though, just surprised at how much less he got over Neck. We've now overpaid him 5 years running.

i don't think anyone but you would say markakis is overpaid at $6M

I really think the losing and low expectations during the rebuild allowed him to lose his edge. Hearing the reports of renewed dedication to his craft were great to hear, but these results are very encouraging. I'm rooting so hard for Julio.

That depends I guess. If he continues what he did in the second half, he will be. If he eeks out a single WAR next year, the $6mil would've been worth it.

I'm not gonna get bent out of shape about ST games too much, but we on a 5-game losing streak. I'd like to get some positive momentum going into the season opener

6 million isn’t that much money. But I think at the end of the year he might be overpaid. I am not sure he is going to be more than a zero war player. Second half neck is what I expect.

The offense has been bad. Outside of Acuña, the OD offense has be lack luster.

I'm not that worried about the offense and with Donaldson's slow ramp up, I sorta expected our spring stats to be depressed a bit. Looking at the ST stats to date, here's what jumps out:

    1. Acuna is going to win the MVP if he can stay healthy. I expect 100+ runs and RBIs, BA around .290 and a 40/20 season.
    2. Austin Riley isn't ready for the big time. He has the most ABs on the team and has done basically nothing with them.
    3. Albies' power hasn't shown up, but I think it's a good sign that he's hitting ~.300 right now without it. We need him to hit for power, but not at the expense of being a quality on base guy.
    4. Camargo looks about normal.
    5. Duvall is truly awful.
    6. The rest of the regulars are doing normal stuff for them, including Neck so far.
    7. Pache looks like the starting CF after the trade deadline. Currently sporting a 1.335 OPS across 27 ABs. Looks and feels like a true breakout from an extremely talented player. Question is does he get sent directly to Gwinnett or will they send him back to Mississippi first. I'm glad we didn't trade him, but am a bit upset that Riley wasn't flipped.

    Riley is pressing.

What I mean, they want to see power so he is over swinging and missing. It is not that he has the tools, he has, but living up to the billing and he is pressing.

I'm sure he's pressing, but he's been over swinging and missing his entire minor league career. This is who he is at this point. Also, if AAA guys can make him strike out >30% of the time, what do you think major league pitchers are going to do to him?

Yeah, I agree with you here. Likely why he is very available in trade.

I typically agree, but what else can we over-analyze right now?

I think Duvall is a cut candidate.

We can likely find someone to replicate his "production" thus far with us for penny's on his dollar.

    Means less than nothing.
"Acuna is getting lucky, just like CJ did when he batted .321 and won a batting title. He is unlikely to get lucky at the MLB level over an extended period of time. He will settle in around .300-.320 just like everyone else, and when he does, he won't be within shouting distance of the 1.000 OPS he is posting in AAA...more like low .700s in 2018." -Enscheff 8/25/17

He is definitely a cut candidate. I would have liked to pick up Adam Jones to replace him, but I see why they kept Duvall to give him a shot. He just hasn't shown that he can hit with the Braves. Maybe a second change of scenery would help him.

We can cut him and save some of the ~$3m owed to him as we'd only owe him a prorated amount.

My biggest concern of the spring has been the health of our pitching. Folty is going to miss his first few starts of the season. Soroka just started throwing BP with shoulder issues, Gausman had shoulder issues and has been lit up since coming back. Then in the bullpen, Minter is hurt as well as O'Day, who the FO was trying to push as being an impact guy and why we don't need a Kimbrel...honestly, even if we sign Kimbrel today, he won't be ready to start the season.
    Get off my lawn!
