Meh, the "committed to the kids" mantra is the result of the poor offseason, not the original gameplan. At this point, they have to say that. Also, everyone with a brain realizes they don't "have to blow the next decade" to trade a few pieces to make this current team more competitive.
This is all white washing.
Haha I call bull sh*t...
The blowpen was utterly awful last season and the front office did NOTHING to address it...not even a non roster invitee or an aging vet on a minor league deal hoping to find lightning in a bottle.
Like last season, this team will pitch its way out of contention being the division is better.

Since Riley's 0/5 5 k, 1 bb start, he's 4/11 0 k, 1 bb

I don't think you watched baseball at all last season then. The BP was very good last season. The only bad pitchers we had that threw significant innings were, Jackson (bounced back and forth from AAA), Moylan (who didn't pitch after July), and Freeman. Viz, Biddle, Winkler, Carle, Minter, and Brach were very good and all except Brach are returning. We also get (hopefully) a healthy O'Day, and likely one of the kids will spend a good amount of time in the pen (my bet is Fried).

It was an average pen. There were a couple key guys who lost effectiveness toward year (Winkler and Biddle), partly because they had injury histories that had prevented them from experiencing what it was like to pitch deep into a season under playoff pressure. I think they have a better idea now of what kind of rigors are involved and will be better prepared (both mentally and physically) for a long season.
