It would depend on how much of Greinkes money they’d eat.

Well you should dig into what changed with Sanchez this year. He basically developed a cutter, which allowed him to reduce usage of his fastball and slider. His cutter is his best pitch. When a pitcher comes up with a new pitch like that there is a better chance he can sustain a turnaround. The cutter has become the career extender for older pitchers. It allows them to pitch inside to opposite handed hitters.

I'm a Zach Greinke fan. I think he'll be better than Sanchez the next year or two. But not by much. They are pretty similar pitchers at this stage of their careers.

I mentioned this in another thread. Taking Greinke and his contract might be an opportunity to do a reverse Kimbrell deal, if the Braves have an appetite for it.

As an aside, the Diamondbacks rebuilt last time just like my fear is for the Braves - rebuild enough to get good, but not good enough to actually win, by limiting the scope of the rebuild process only to fall quickly back into another rebuild. I think the Braves did a better job of stockpiling talent. We just have to see if a Miller for Swanson/Inciarte type deal is in our future.

BTW - they haven't committed to stripping down, they've just said they're "listening" on everybody. That by no means precludes a firesale.

It would be smart to, alot of their top players are close to free agency, Goldy has 1 year left, and their farm is in bad shape.

But very true, if they do strip it down, Peralta would make a ton of sense.

Greinke aside, there aren't many players who'd better fit this team moving forward than Peralta.

Maybe if Greinke was younger, sure.

I know you meant him, he makes a ton of sense. Shouldnt cost a ton in prospect capital, and fills the other outfield role perfectly.

And money wise, he'd still give AA money to upgrade the pen, bench, and catcher.

That sounds more like evolutionary psychologists rather than evolutionary biologists.

I think Peralta makes sense as well. The fact he's only signed for 2 more years is a plus to me as we wouldn't block the Pache/Waters combo coming up.

The D-backs should go ahead and tear it down.

I knew Peralta had a good season but I didn’t know he had been that good. Count me in as going big after Peralta.

I didn't either. He's a near-perfect bat for the lineup. I think he'd be a lot but affordable given the plethora of options we have.

This is the type of news we've been waiting for. Now that we know the DBacks are open for business, Peralta makes a lot of sense.

He has 2 years of control and is projected to make $7.7M in 2019 and around $12M in 2020, so let's call it an even $20M over his 2 remaining years of control.

We undoubtedly saw his career year in 2018, and he is unlikely to sustain that 23.4% HR/FB rate (career rate of 16%). I would project him for ~6 wins over the next 2 seasons, giving him a surplus value of ~$40M.

If they are looking for young MLB-ready (or nearly ready) pitching, there aren't many better trade partners than the Braves. A single FV 50/50+ pitcher plus 1-2 filler pieces should get it done. I would not dip into the FV 55 guys for him unless other MLB pieces came along in a package.

No thanks to Greinke...not even remotely an option.
