Bowman said earlier that he's likely the only one gone from Snit's staff.

So if Hernandez is gone who do we go to?

I think Dennis Lewallyn would be a good choice. It might hurt us a little not having our best development guy in the minors, but he could install his philosophy with a trickle down effect to the pitching coaches in the minors.

Fine enough. Snitker isn't perfect but is at least willing to listen and make adjustments. Not all of the stuff we got irritated with was up to him alone, AA said that there is a system they use in the regular season to determine if whether to use a certain reliever or not on that day based on usage, and some of the decisions made on who's available to pitch that night have been made before the game. So scream at the front office if you don't like that.

    Edit: Chuck Hernandez isn't returning.
Edit2: Actually that hasn't been determined quite yet, hmm.
Aggression with prospects is fine, but being stupid is not. There should be a way to find a happy medium between a Pirates like idea of being overly cautious with prospects and going stupidly fast with prospects.

No matter who else we brought in people would still bitch and moan about their in game decisions so I’m ok keeping Snit. He has won the club house and is willing to listen and adapt so I have no problem here. Hernandez has been my main issue so let’s get a real pitching coach in here.

The out of control walks have to spell the end for Hernandez. The post season just showed in the extreme what had been a problem all year. The reason I have to pin that on Hernandez was how uniform of a problem its been since he got here.

Excellent! This was actually at the top of my list of things we needed to do this offseason.

Agreed word is he may stay in the organization but I don’t want him near these kids...

Wish we could get Mike Maddux

I'd fully expect Lewallyn to at least have some buzz - he handled the young guns when most started to take off after all.

From outside the organization, one of the sleeper names I really like is Darren Holmes.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

Hopefully he is just being polite to keep the door open for Nick in case other options fail.

Of course we'd have interest in bringing Nick and Zuk back. Both would be okay stopgaps if we can't improve at a position. However, I think there's a good chance we're looking to find a bat or two with OF and C being two spots we're looking to improve. But if there are not real upgrades to be had, there are worse players that could be signed.

There's no good reason for not saying this. I'd guess it's just being nice tho

Never seen so much hate for a player then what Markakis gets from you guys. Guess he wasn’t a Braves farmhand so that explains it.

Braves farmhands are cheaper by a lot.

The Braves don’t have the 90’s payroll anymore (well they do, but not adjusted for inflation now) when we were a top 2-3 payroll in baseball.

Thus it doesn’t make sense to spend money on Markakis at market rate. You were one of the few people here cheering on his signing because somehow you felt it was ownership showing they were willing to spend money. We had him on truly awful bad teams for 3 out of the 4 years he was here. So it pretty much was a waste of money.

A lot of analytical types also highly value difficult to measure things like clubhouse culture and veteran laidership. We're going to find out this off-season that AA is very much one of those.

I like Markakis, I just think the money is better spent elsewhere now.

I liked Markakis from the beginning that is true. It was because he was a capable proven MLB player. The team was crap so how is that his fault? He got 11 million a season. That’s a lot, but not a lot when you consider salaries of other players. He’s been solid since day 1 and had himself a good season. I get that you don’t want to throw any money at him, but unless there is a legit upgrade to be had, then the Braves need to keep every option open. I don’t know what the market value for him is going to be, but I imagine it would be something near what he just got done receiving from the Braves. Maybe both sides can come to agreement on a year deal worth something around 12 million. If Nick likes it here and there is no reason that he doesn’t then maybe there is room for both sides to get what they want. Aside from Freeman is there really a single player who makes that much annually? Julio, maybe?
