Samardzija would be a great get depending on the price. Power arm with ace stuff. Going from Wrigley to a pitchers park might do him wonders.

I think the Marlins should trade for Samardziga. A Samardziga/Saltalamacchia battery would be awesome. Imagine the ghost of Harry Caray trying to spit that one out.
The Cubs are asking for a ridiculous price for Samardzija! They wanted Stroman, Sanchez PLUS 2 more prospects from Toronto! If that's the case he WILL NOT be a Brave and I'm very cool with that.

I'd assume the Cubs would be very interested in Bethancourt....I certainly hope Wren would give it a shot.

Braves sign Matt Gamel.
Odd signing unless he plays PH, but it may be a minor league deal
Not sure i'd give up CB in a trade for Shark.
I really like the Mat Gamel signing. No risk with a very high upside potential. If the guy could ever stay healthy and tap into even some of his enormous talent.
From TalkingChop:
Braves sign 1B/3B Mat Gamel to Minor League Deal
The Braves have signed corner infielder Mat Gamel to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training, according to Sportsnet. Gamel missed all of last season due to ACL surgery and missed almost all of 2012 for the same reason. He is a shot in the dark, but in his last season of play -- 2011 -- he hit 28 home runs in triple-A to the tune of a 121 wRC+. The concept, I assume, is for Gamel to earn the left-handed bench spot on the roster and be the primary pinch hitter. Additionally, Gamel would be able to spell both Chris Johnson and Freddie Freeman on their off days. Gamel could also provide some insurance if Johnson were to turn back into the pumpkin he was thought to be before last season. This is a very wise buy-low move, and could pay some substantial dividends if Gamel is able to stay healthy.
As for Samardzija, no way I'd include Bethancourt in any deal. While I'm a big Gattis supporter, we need to see more of him in a full time role before we trade the only legitimate catching prospect we have in our farm system.

Two ACL injuries, yikes. Wonder if he'll be able to play 3b. Won't be playing much 1b with Freddie around.
Did Juan Francisco, in essence, take his roster spot?
