I seriously doubt that Braves will lose any of the arb hearings. Maybe Freddie but dont think so.

I agree. But that is apparently what's going to happen.

And then ... they lose ... exactly what? $300K?

Braves driving a hard bargain shouldn't engender ill-will from the players, especially if they understand the economics of being a middle market team.

The players don't care about that. Neither does their agent or the union.

So we lose our core players within a season. It's looking pretty clear that those guys want nothing to do with this organization.

Exactly. So, I'm trying to understand all the huff around these parts about the Braves going to arbitration.

I interpreted it as the players don't care about our financial situation and will still be pissed off. But I don't really think it matters because they all want to leave anyways. No lose situation.

Even if the Braves win in this arb. hearing, they still lose.
I wish they had given Schafer's spot to an org. guy and used that money for negotiations.

Exactly. The difference between what Schafer is making and what Todd Cunningham (for example) would make is MORE than the 300K the Braves and Heyward are fighting over.

Personally, I'd prefer a Constanza/Cunningham combo to Schafer either way. But as long as Schafer is around neither makes the roster (and come playoff time you'll want Constanza over Schafer again).

What do you guys have against Schafer, he proved his worth last year and he's better than Constanza. Cunningham is too much of a unknown.

Proved his worth? Did you stop watching in June? He is terrible. It is not worth paying over fifty grand for a stolen base.

Schafer was terrible the second half, and while his first half was good his track record isn't. He only hit .247 for the season with a .677 OPS even with his great start. Further, Schafer hasn't been better in the Majors than Constanza. They've both have had streaks of good play in the Majors but Constanza has better numbers (Schafer has hit .227 with a .622 OPS, Constanza has hit .278 hit with .650 OPS). Plus Constanza is a proven playoff performer at every level he's played (Majors, Winter ball, AAA, etc).

Bottom line: They're both similar players and Cunningham is likely in the same category. So all things considered, I'd go with the cheaper two over Schafer.

And the people on the inside turning this organization into something ugly can go **** themselves, too. Players used to go out of their way for a chance to play for the Braves.

It likely doesn't help matters to see so many of your pals move on in such a short time. A lot of team favorites have left in the last few seasons.

I don't see this as anything more than procedural. Maybe I'm missing something, though.
