    Greinke plus Peralta

According to MLBTR, the DBacks are aggressively shopping Greinke: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/...ats-phils.html

We know the Braves need a cOF, and there is a lot of chatter about them also acquiring that "frontline starter" everyone always wants them to go after. Greinke is old, but he still approximates a "frontline starter".

Greinke is owed $95M over the next 3 years, is definitely in his decline phase, and is probably projected to produce around 9 wins over those 3 years (3.5, 3, 2.5). He represents a surplus value in the neighborhood of -$10M+ (yes, negative trade value).

Peralta has 2 years of arb control, will probably earn about $18M over those 2 years, and be projected to produce around 5-6 wins over those years. He represents a surplus value of ~$35M.

The Braves could blow their entire 2019 payroll on Greinke and Peralta ($40M+ total) while only giving up $25M in prospect capital. They could increase the package going back the the DBacks in exchange for cash that would allow them to spend a bit more on C and the bench.

No way do I want 3 years of Greinke, but that's a deal that could be out there if AA really wants to add a SP.

Sending Julio to the D-Backs in a trade for Grienke would help the money issue a bit.

any deal we make for greinke with or without Peralta will almost surely not involve our taking on all of Greinke's remaining salary

the deal that is more plausible is something along these lines: Newcomb plus a prospect for Greinke and Peralta...the quality of the prospect will be calibrated to the amount of dough the Diamondbacks kick in

This Greinke talk will just not go away. Maybe 5-7 years ago, sure. Now he’s one of the most expensive players in the game. Leave it to this team to make a bad decision.

The entire point of this thread is whether or not we should take on Greinke’s *bad* money to land Peralta.

The "Need" for a TOR guy is no where so dire to even consider Greinke, IMO. If we have to eat Greinke to land Peralta then look away and consider any of the other guys who have drawn so much interest around here.

I think it would make sense to up the Braves part of the deal enough to have Arizona eat $10 million per year. That means $55 million in capital correct? So Newcomb and Allard probably isn't quite enough, but it should be close. I wouldn't hesitate at that price.

Only way I take Greinke back is if we are paying him less than 20 million a year and they take Teheran back. And of course we get Peralta. We have so many options available that they need us a heck of a lot more than we need them.

Correct. The Diamondbacks are in a very tough spot. They are wounded prey. AA needs to be ruthlessly opportunistic.

I suspect, however, that we may be able to get a better deal from Seattle or Cleveland. Talking to the Diamondbacks may give us leverage relative to those other teams.

Diamondbacks still haven't healed from the last jail sex raping the Braves gave them. Not likely they will forget that.

See that Shelby Miller might get non tendered. Do you think the Braves spend a little capital to stash him away a la Eovaldi? Or too much young pitching on hand for that? I'm thinking the latter but am intrigued by the buy low possibilities, especially if you get 1-2 team options.

Newk, JT, Muller, and Alex Jackson for Greinke, Peralta, and 25 million cash (roughly 7.5 million per year).

Gives them 2 quality starting pitchers with control to replace Greinke and Corbin, also Muller could push for a rotation spot mid-season if he continues to develop. Also frees up enough money to re-sign Pollock and give it one more go with Goldy still on the team.

Bring back Anibal. And you have a rotation of Greinke, Folty, Gausman, Anibal and Fried to start the season. You hold on to a bunch of major league ready guys for the AAA rotation: Gohara, Soroka, Wright, Wilson, Touki.

    Pretty good scenario.

I have always been huge on Greinke. His velocity drop scares me but I am still excited about aquiring him. He is a huge Braves fan but when he came back from his hiatus early in his career he said he would play for the highest bidder even if it was a last place team. Maybe the 200 million changed his outlook. Maybe he does something to facilitate a trade. Could we add a year or two for cheap money then restructure the deal to even out the salary? Not gonna hold my breath on that.

If we could trade for Greinke and Peralta and have the DBacks pick up 30 million while sending them Teheran back we should be able to afford Grandal at like 4/60. If we can’t afford to sign Grandal or trade for Realmuto bc of a trade with the DBacks then the trade doesn’t need to happen.
