I'm all for putting Inciarte lead-off again and see where it takes us. That being said, I'd be ultra surprised if Donaldson doesn't weasel his way into the two-hole, he loves hitting there.

I'd try to have JD 4th, so Freddie has protection. But i could see Acuna/JD/Freddie.

I mean he had a .350 OBP the 2 previous years here. Even this past season he was at .325. If you subscribe to the theory that he was unlucky (.293 BABIP supports that) you might expect a bounce back season with an OBP near .350 again. That makes him a pretty fantastic leadoff hitter.

Even though no one really saw this coming (even though it had been mentioned, I don't recall anyone mentioning Donaldson as Option #1 when push came to shove), this really could be the best-case scenario if there's enough money. Right-handed power bat to hit behind Freddie and buy Riley time, big upgrade over Markakis on an OF corner, big upgrade defensively behind the plate. Letting Donaldson walk next winter helps lessen the blow from the international penalties since you'll add a Top 35-ish pick.

Not sure there's still $25-$30 million (or more) left, but there's still more money "available" than we've talked about to this point because we haven't really been talking about backloading deals. I don't think you want to get crazy doing that, but with Donaldson's $23 million, Julio's $12 million, and O'Day's $9 million coming off in 2020, I don't see any reason AA couldn't pay a large chunk of the money owed to a Brantley/McCutchen and a Closer next year while Acuna/Albies/Camargo/Dansby/Flow/Riley/Contreras/Pache and the arms are still really cheap.

Including McCann's $2m, that is $46m coming off the books right there alone.

Not sure we'll trade O'Day, he could be a big part to the bullpen. Had 27 K's/4 walks, 8 ER runs, in just 20 innings pitched, 1.1 WHIP but 3.6 ERA. I guess if you can find a suitor for him and sign 2 RP's, you do it but i'd think they keep him. I think JT is as good as gone unless payroll is much bigger than expected.

Inciarte could be a decent lead-off man if he would keep his head in the game and quit trying to slap the ball around just for the sake of it. There are months when he shows himself to be patient and then he just discards that approach for no apparent reason. I'm not advocating putting him there, but when he's focused on being selective, he can perform the role.

I think Acuna bats second, Freddie third, JD cleanup

Inciarte leads off against righties. Ozzie leads off against lefties.

I'm not sure that I'd take Acuna out of the lead off spot after his explosion there last year. I'd be fine hitting Ender 9th and having our pitchers hit 8th in a lot of situations.
