That's why this whole Donaldson thing makes no sense. But maybe we could move Donaldson to first so Freeman can play his natural position.

The Braves have basically used cash to secure 2 really good bats for the lineup. Now they still have some cash available and a ton of prospects to deal. If the Braves could sign McCutchen/Brantley, trade for a TOR guy Thor/DeGrom/Kluber/Carrasco and sign a couple BP guy this team could be really, REALLY good.

I don't even need to explain why you have the worst ideas in the world. Every baseball player has been injured so they are all more susceptible I guess. I don't even know how to respond to your Goldy comment other than just... what? You will have a negative spin on any move the Braves make though because that's your thing. Everyone's got a thing I guess.

It floors me that some people cannot see the obvious enormous positives from these deals. Our flexibility to fill the other holes with impact talent and the flexibility to spend next year is pretty amazing

Very happy with this. If I'm Donaldson, I don't take a one year deal this early in the offseason. I'm not implying that he won't do well in 2019, but if he wins the bet on himself and stays healthy and productive, he's going to be facing a QO from the Braves as he looks to re-enter the market at age 34. I suppose there's a chance given his relationship with AA that they have a handshake deal not to make him a QO? I believe that sort of thing has been done before (can't remember who) and is allowed.

Cannot agree more. It is basically a reallocation of funds around the team....going into the offseason, Catcher and cOF were our two biggest positions of need. My guess is that AA evaluated what was available on the FA/Trade market and felt that signing Donaldson to play 3b could be a bigger upgrade than what was out there. By doing so, he signed BMac to a cheap deal, hoping that we can get something out of him and Flowers. Signs Donaldson, which improves us in 2 other spots...If Donaldson rakes, we have an MVP caliber hitter in our line up (not to mention the ability to attach the QO to him and get a prospect) and Camargo bolsters our bench, which was probably our third biggest weakness..

Now, we have not given up a single prospect, and still have some cash to spend. As I have mentioned in numerous other threads, I am 100% positive that Teheran and/or O'day are gone. That would allow us to go after several other additions

Kinda surprised Donaldson took a 1 yr deal, if the Braves were gonna get him, i'd want it to be for 1 year. But given all the money out there, i think he could have for sure got a multi year deal if he waited, but who knows?

This also strengthens the bench. Current bench: Flow/Mac, Culberson, Camargo, 4th OF'er.

23 mil is pretty pricy, i'd have to think AA looks to unload Julio for just about anything just to get his contract off the books. If you can unload him, you really only add 14 mil in payroll, Julio at 11 mil, Donaldson/Mac at 25 mil. Also we'll see who gets non-tendered and doesnt and what the payroll is after that.

I dont think O'Day is gone, but Julio has to be as good as gone even if AA just dumps him to get his salary off the books.

Agreed...O'Day could be gone if we need the financial flexibility to make another bigger move. But Teheran is for sure gone

Even in an injury-filled season.. he performed as a 4 fWAR player if extrapolated to a full season.

I love this... getting a potential MVP talent on a 1 year deal is a great risk/reward.

I mean i guess, but if you dump Julio, you only really add 14 mil to the payroll. Also depends who gets non-tendered. I think if they dump Julio, they have enough payroll flexibility to do what they wanna do.

Also AA hasnt even touched the farm yet, so the cOF'er could come via trade who is still in arb or pre-arb. But if they have enough money, Brantley would make alot of sense.

To get a bench player the caliber of Camargo would probably cost ~5-8M on the open market.

We do this by spending $23M on JD.

I’m surprised it’s north of 20 million. I assume we get to offer a qualifying offer next year...

I like the move. Comargo at super utility makes sense but I don’t see it with this manager. I also don’t see us competing with sub avg bats at cf, ss and c.

I think we will move at least one of inciarte or dansby

The corner of we get has to be a lefty now, right? Mccutchen is out.

I’m starting to think we go all in and move dansby and inciarte. Acuna to c. Pollock to left. Big trade for a cost controlled and cheap rf who rakes. Dansby as part of a deal for a pitcher or the rf.

Having acuna on a cheap deal might be akin to having a qb on a rookie deal.
