Wow, William Contreras promoted to Double A. Probably doesn't have anything to do with Langeliers, but that's where my mind went.

Contreras isn't exactly having a great year so far at the plate.

He’s been fine, except for the power numbers—but maybe this is as much about consistent playing time (fewer rainouts) than anything.

The power is what has me a little unsure about the move. But the last two promotions out of Florida that I've been hesitant about were Riley and Pache, so don't listen to me.

First AB for Contreras in double A — falls behind 0-2 then walks in a 10-pitch AB.

Control issues was a blip and not the reality.

Who knows what he was working on early in the year.

Always remember the story of the Braves not letting Hanson throw his curveball then at some point they gave him the greenlight and he proceeded to K 10+ batters a game.

yeah the walks sure dropped off sharply. i still have little reason to believe he has real control issues. i think that number will continue to drop and be lower than last year.

Blip is a bit mild. He's now walked 137 in 302.2 IP. That's a 4.07 BB/9. If he posted that in Atlanta it would be tied for 11th worst in baseball. So it's been less a blip and more a major concern that it could limit his potential.

I really hope this trend of fewer walks continues, but he'll need to show far more than a 4 start run.

I also want to see more data on the curve. There have been reports of a less than impressive spin rate on the curve and it wasn't all that impressive in ST. Considering it's his key pitch, I want to see more.

He improved his walk rate from 4.66 per/9 in 2017 to 3.60 per/9 in 2018 and is currently only 21. I believe the blip referred to here was the first few starts of this year when he struggled. Looking at his FIP and xFIP show me all I need to know. "Major concern" is just another typical striker over reaction. If he stays healthy, he can be very good.

I was not impressed with the stuff Anderson showed in spring training. Fastball was unimpressive.

3.60 BB/9 is just outside the bottom 20% of starters in MLB. I want my young pitchers to aim higher than that.

A BB/9 over 4 in over 300 minor league innings is a major concern. It's not an overraction but it's also not a death sentence for his career. It's a glaring deficiency he must address if he doesn't wanting it capping his potential.

Nowhere did I say a 3.60 per/9 was good. But a 20 year old improving his rate from 4.66 to 3.6... is a significant sign that he was adjusting and having real success. A 20 or 21 year old with a 3.60 per/9 at AA is not exactly much of a concern... especially when you see how quickly he sees results after making adjustments.
