Scott Walker Signs Bills Stripping Powers From Incoming Wisconsin Governor

FOX CROSSING, Wis. — Scott Walker, the outgoing Republican governor of Wisconsin, on Friday signed into law measures that diminish the power of his Democratic successor and expand the authority of Republican lawmakers who teamed up with him over the last eight years to move the state firmly to the right.

Mr. Walker signed the measures over the objections of the incoming governor and despite vehement protest in the State Capitol as Republican lawmakers rushed the bills through in a hastily-called session last week. Tony Evers, the Democrat who beat Mr. Walker in the November election, has suggested he may file suit over the changes.

Mr. Walker’s signing the measures into law was expected to solidify some of the policies that made him a hero to many conservatives nationally and, for a brief time, a presidential candidate. But participating in what many Democrats have called a legally dubious power grab also cemented another widely held view: that Mr. Walker is a bruising partisan willing to break precedent and ignore protests for political gain.

If one of your liberal leaders did this you wouldn’t mention it and nobody else would either. It’s “news” because Walker is on the right side of the aisle.

Please feel free to show the plethora of examples where liberal leaders have done this to their incoming conservative successors.

It’s a trick question because it never would have been reported.

It would have been on Breitbart, Infowars, or any other right-wing outlet, on the front page.

I hate tactics like this. It's like the parties think they'll always been in charge and don't understand that once you blaze a trail, anyone can walk down it.

Funny enough this story has been out for a while now .. a bunch of conservatives started asking liberal publications why they weren't covering it and then Vox, good for them, finally did.

But I love that you excuse this act away due to an opinion article.

Why is so hard to just to condemn all of it.

Oh and also the reason I posted the Vox article was bc I wanted to pass up the usual "Fox news lol" responses

    i'm against gerry mandering etc

    across the board

this is again you just projecting what you want to believe instead of seeing that i am obviously against gerry mandering

it most likely helped that you posted the Vok article cause the state media didn't cover that angle at all.

and you still don't have an example yet since they are only talking about it

and have democrats calling them not to

which is why democrats lose against republicans cause republicans don't care how it looks, don't really care about democracy and fight to win in the mud

    lol ok.

As we discussed in another thread, there are plenty of examples in this article of democrats using similar tactics to alter incoming republicans

Examples, as I previously mentioned, that are mostly from decades ago. And one of them involves taking redistributing power away from the legislature and placing in the hands of an independent commission, which is closer to fair, anyway.

But I agree that the NJ statehouse plan is horse**** and if my state did it I would act in opposition to it regardless of party.

The inclination for both parties to try to take their half out of the middle on district maps is probably inevitable, which is why there should be as many legal guardrails in place as possible. NJ is trying to wreck those guardrails in a way that NC, Wisconsin, and other states already have.

I think the choice is between “both sides do it, so it’s ok” and “maybe both sides do it, but it’s not ok.”

    I'll co-sign here.

But I'll always be skeptical of the cries of hysteria when they don't self-reflect.
