I think this, and Harris’s (admittedly heated and passionate) coming at Biden yesterday are pretty much of a piece, pretty much fair, and not at all what is being suggested here.

The trouble with this argument is that it’s pathologically lacking in nuance. You have a narrative: Democrats go-to move is calling people racist. Ok. A reasonable counter-narrative is that any reasonable exploration of how to talk about, or not to talk about, race in America gets written off—and thus discounted—as “calling people racist.” Biden was problematic and cringe-y on race issues in 2008. He’s no less so today. What’s wrong with saying that people expect the standard-bearer for the party to not be a rhetorical trainwreck when he discusses issues of race, and, even more importantly, not have decades of baggage to unpack on the subject?

That’s not unreasonable, IMO.

FWIW, I think as the campaign goes on, Harris is going to have to answer some uncomfortable questions on issues of race and justice, based on her career in CA. I think this is good, generally. It’s only when you take the sturg position of “racism is defined solely as saying racial slurs, etc” that an honest reckoning of both words and deeds is discounted.

The claim she levied against Biden (opposing bussing) was a position that was held by African Americans at the time as well.

Harris is just another focus group candidate that is more visually appealing than Hillary and has better acting skills. Her shtick will run old and genuine candidates like Biden/Warren/Yang/Sanders will get to the top.

Problem is the election isnt tomorrow. Dont underestimate an incumbent with a strong economy. Even if he is a clown.

I hear you but I got to believe after four years of this dog and pony show there is one thing that unites Dems that being Trump's removal. I have to believe also that whatever type of Dem they are, be it labor or social issues or whatever they will hold their nose to vote if they have to get done what needs doing. Even if Biden is not the nominee I have no issue voting for any of the rest. Anybody anti-Trump should feel the same.

For example, Ron Paul's policies are so much more in favor of minorities than Kamala Harris its not even funny. While Paul risked his Republican status for advocating criminal justice reform, Harris was locking up blacks in record numbers for non violent offenses.

I actually liked her a lot until you pointed out her economic policies to me (I hadn't seen her say anything but her foreign policy stances).

I dont understand why you think written words with a dubious claim to be written by Ron Paul outweights 40 years of public statements and actions. If black people wouldnt vote for a man who wants to end the institutional racism inherent in policing because he might have said the N word 40 years ago then they deserve all the bad **** they get. I guarandamntee you that every single person running for President has said something that would be considered racist more than once in their life. No one running for president is this innocent virgin who has never sinned in their life. The only decent person to win the office was Jimmy Carter and America hated him with a passion.
