Cannot say I am surprised, yet a bit disheartened, by the signing. I thought we would try to improve. I hope that means Kimbrel gets a better look
but it is he'll earn $4M in 2019 with a $6M option for 2020 or a $2M buyout.

well i'm a hoarder (when it comes to prospect capital) so i am good with this

At 4m, you are giving him bench money. He's a known personality fit for the team. I don't expect a repeat of last season, but I don't see it being too farfetched that he repeats a decent percentage of what he did last season. I do not think it was as fluky or as one month dependent as the general perception ---though I would certainly bet there is some regression.
I don't think his signing particularly prevents them from doing anything that people were talking about yesterday.
well it almost definitely stops the pursuit for an upgrade at corner OF. it's bench money, but is he going to be our bench guy? i doubt it.
the problem isn't the money, it's the fact that you've essentially downgraded the corner OF spot from last year when you had the resources to upgrade it. without another big move in the pipeline, this isn't good.

How is it a downgrade if you have the same exact player???
which is smarter, McCutchen at 3 years 50M or Nick at 1 year 4M with option and buyout? remember McCuthen hit .255 with 20 homers last season Markakis hit .297 with 14 Homers. I'll take Nick when looked at in that light
Great signing! The best thing this team has done in a long time was sign Markakis. Second best thing is extending him at least another year. Steamers, Zips, Baseball Almanac, and MLB Pulse have all adjusted the Braves implied win total a full 3 games.
The cost is right for sure. He could be a 4th OF at that price.
Solid signing considering the price. With Riley in the wings (assuming he's not traded) and Camargo on the roster, there are other OF options if Markakis collapses.
Pretty good value there but it's still a meh signing.

Not impressed. We upgrade at 3B and downgrade at C and cOF. I don't get it.

The Mukaki rebuild lives to see another year. If we stick him in LF, give him plenty of days off against lefty starters, and use the saved money to upgrade another weakness, this could be a solid move. If he's in RF and starts 162 games again? **** no.
