Fangraphs Top 100 Released (10 players)

Fangraphs just released their top 100 list today and it was pretty surprising for me. Pache was our highest ranked guy at 19th (Highest ranked 55 on the board). The Braves had 10 prospects on the list with Contreras/Gohara added along with the usual 8. Nobody was ranked lower than 72nd.

They certainly aren't afraid to double down on their Pache love.

I have a hard time seeing how a guy with so many questions about his hit tool can be so high, but they have nailed guys earlier than other prospect guys the last few years, so I can't really protest too much.

The Kid: What should we make of the super low spin rate on Ian Anderson’s curveball? Will it appear more hittable as he climbs the minors. Genuinely curious as is well below breaking ball spin rates of most major leaguers/top prospects.

Eric A Longenhagen: I wouldn’t worry about it too much. It’s been a well-regarded pitch, visually, for his entire career and it is effective against hitters. He may be a high spin-efficiency guy and it has tumble because of that. We really don’t know.

Anderson is the prospect I am most eager to see make his debut so I can take a look at real MLB Statcast data for his stuff.

Is there any of this data collected during ST?

I haven't seen it. I've seen some for AFL, but who knows how reliable it is. Like, what if the groundskeeper just bolted the radar to the backstop in 5 minutes?

Until I see real Statcast data on Baseball Savant, I am skeptical Anderson only has 1700 RPM on his curve and still generates above average movement. Those are two completely contradictory "facts".

10 prospects in the top 72 is something.

I'm a big Drew Waters guy, and while i like Pache, 19 seems a bit too high imo.

Man - I really like what AA is about and what he did to tweak the team in 2018 as well as the 2019 offseason but with how elite the farm system is now I don't get why he wouldn't have kept the legacy developmental/draft guys.

He has to be behind the guys that report to him of course and he has earned the right to put his own stamp on the organization but these new guys have big shoes to fill.

I like them both but I'm higher on Pache too than most . I have repeatedly said he's better hit-wise than he was when he started. I think he's going to be much better than he is now. I don't know about that ranking though. Aggressive.
