Yeah he was insanely good. Sad that it took him as long as it did to make the HOF. Just further proves that the idiots looking at wins as the main component of a pitchers success were ****ing stupid.

Did we sign Blyleven? How many innings is he planning on going today?

I think the problem with the Dutchman was not his wins (287 is a lot) but the losses (250) which is somehow a worst statistic than pitching wins.

he pitched for a lot of bad teams...and he usually pitched well enough to be left in long enough to pick up a decision...that's my positive spin on the losses and i'm sticking with it

Blyleven kind of got the Don Sutton treatment vis-a-vis the Hall of Fame. Long career and, as AA said, the curve ball of all curve balls. But the guy was (and still is) a total flake. Ron Shelton was channeling Bert Blyleven when he wrote the character Nuke LaLoosh. I got to see him pitch several times early in his career. His big problem was an inability to pitch through bad luck. One wrong bounce or a misplay behind him and he would melt.

I think you are right. He tend to lose it and scowl because someone made a mistake and the manager keeps him out there.

As for his curveball, maybe Enscheff can tell us his break but what I saw from him, I thought guys were like scared to see it. I don't remember him throwing that hard but that curveball, man it was a sight to see. It broke a lot and from 12 to 6 as well. I thought he was cheating.

When all baseball sites said he has one of the best ever, got to give it up to him.

But almost struck out 3800 hitters and that is darn impressive.

With the way Fried, Wright, Toussaint and Wilson are pitching, pitching crisis has turned into pitching surplus.

    mods please close thread

These guys are all pushing their way into the rotation equation. Seeing who gets forced out in the process will be fascinating.

I still think Wright is the best of the bunch.

Well yeah. It was painful round here when he went on hiatus. No one would offer any projection on insight!

I'm also waiting on Jace Peterson to eclipse 3.4 WAR in his first 6 seasons of team control. Just 3.8 more WAR to go

It looks like our kids are going to get plenty of opportunities on the mound. Hell we are gonna have Freddy Tarnok getting starts at this rate.

We apparently aren't in on him right now. He or Kimbrel. I'd still add, Keuchel, but that's me.

Interesting note I hadn't heard mentioned anywhere just talked about on XM -

Remember someone pointed out Julio's fastball was already touching 93 in his last outing? The 2019 camp BSOML winner may very well be Teheran. The fact that he doesn't usually work at that velocity until things warm up in June may actually not be a mirage - he apparently put on 17 pounds over the offseason. Didn't notice he looked much bigger in the early camp pictures, but there were only a couple I saw.

Wake up and report something Bowman!!!
