If the Braves get the 2 seed locked up before that last series, i wonder if Snit/AA throw that last series to get the Mets in. If the Mets have a chance to get in. I agree Mets/Nats have the best shot vs LA though.

At this point I think I'd rather have the 1 seed. I think we can beat anyone in the NL and would rather play the Dodgers at home than on the road.

Dave Martinez has a heart procedure, doesn't travel with the team. Maybe he can share a hospital room with Charlie.

I'm shocked by this news. I'd have sworn he had no heart.

In seriousness, I don't like the jackass but I don't wish health problems on anyone. Hope it's nothing serious.

Nats fans are probably happy. They like almost every fan base thinks their manager is an idiot and holding them back.

Unstoppable? No. But they've been very good since the start of July, which is a 2.5 month sample. Their hot July just seems like the counter to their awful June. Their season record is more indicative of their true talent, imo, which is roughly an 85 win team.

The Phillies are hiring, and you need to show your math.

After Sixto for JTR maybe they should have been asking this question last year

Pretty typical of these baseball ops positions back when I was looking into it a couple years ago. They rely on the fact that there are many wannabe GMs out there desperate to run a sports team, so they don't have to pay these guys much of anything and get to pick the smartest ones.

It may have been an option 15-20 years ago (back when such positions didn't exist), but I've become reliant on a certain pay rate now that I'm old and have dependents.

Looks like Allard's velocity increase is due to moving his arm slot a bit:

    https://blogs.fangraphs.com/kolby-al...r-the-rangers/

Take a AAAA pitcher, add a few ticks of velocity and a new cutter, throw in an unsustainable 3.0% HR/FB rate, and this is what you get.

His new repertoire plays as a #4/5, and his .321 xwOBA suggests he's exactly that. Velocity bumps are a major red flag for future injury, but if Allard can stay healthy and keep his newfound arsenal intact the Rangers got a great return for a BP arm.
