If you look at the list of teams selling at the trade deadline this year, almost all of them carrying an albatross contract to a starting pitcher. It is not the only reason they are selling but it is an important reason.

Cobb for the Orioles, Kennedy for the Royals, Hernandez for the Mariners, Zimmermann for the Tigers, Chen for the Marlins.

    LOL...It just doesn't stop.

Please show the data that back up this claim. Your cursory parse of the WAR leader boards?

Aside from felix, who relied on high velocity, none of those guys touch bumgarber and he already out performing them at a similar age by a mile.

You apparently don't remember how good Zimmerman was before Detroit.

To be fair all those except Felix Hernandez were considered horrificly bad at the time. I hear teams use the future values now so maybe it made sense to the future value crowd.

This isn’t the Matt Harvey of the ESPN Body Issue magazine. Nothing to see here.

Mets gonna Mets. Giants now at .500. Tyler Beede went 8 innings with 0 runs. I think I saw someone compare Kyle Wright to Beede for some reason. Wright cant even pitch 8 scoreless innings at AA much less the majors.

Yeah who knows if the Giants even sell now. They’re close to that 2nd WC spot, tho it’s a log jam still. That coupled with Wheeler is hurt I’m starting to wonder if we even make a move. The price on everyone else just went up and AA is no longer a fan of the overpay so....come on Folty! Need you to right that ship buddy

You never know - We might be talking about how either Ian Anderson or Tucker Davidson are the secret weapon in October.

    It was me.

Be patient, at age 26, Wright will have a great isolated start haha

Stroman went 7 IP, 0 walks, 0 runs last night, 1.5 years of control. He's probably who i'd target, just not sure i'd offer Waters for him.

Yeah Anderson has some great games under his belt this season. If we end up not trading for a SP then I can certainly see us giving him a shot if Folty and/or Gausman don’t round into form

He’s been great for sure. My fear is that he’s going to cost more with Wheeler injured and Bumgarner potentially off the market. Definitely not giving up Waters for him, and I don’t think AA would either

Why not? He's an All-Star pitcher in his prime. I'd give him a 5 year extension.

Kimbrel has been pretty awful thus far given a SSS... but it appears that his walk problems last year may not have been a blip as he's walking about 7 per 9

I've got it. The solution to all our deadline needs:

Step 1: Trade for Kimbrel. Cubs pay half his salary and send us a prospect. They're just happy to get his contract off the books.
Step 2: Use prospect to trade for Stroman.
Step 3: Trade Wentz and Allard for Will Smith.
Step 4: Trade Ozzie for Dee Gordon.

    Boom. World Series.
