Carle and Jackson combined to give up 4 BB's, 2HR's and 7 ER......

Our failure last season was largely in our bullpen that couldn't throw strikes....again, so pissed at AA right now

I think it’s important to realize the game was close until the Phils ate up the end of the Braves BP.

Why Snit waited until the 9th to send Fried in for mop up work is a bit of a mystery, but as guys like Minter, Gaus and Folty get healthy there should be better options in the BP.

yup in this kind of game you maybe dont use your top 3 guys but you use your 4th best guy, then your 5th etc as long as it's a close game

considering it's an off day tomorrow a case can be made u use some of the top 3 as well

my rough ranking of the pen as currently constituted

    closer Viz
7th and 8th inning guys: Venters and Sobotka

other high leverage guys: Biddle, Fried, Parsons

low leverage: Carle, Jackson and Tomlin

roles will change as things shake out and Minter and O'Day come back but that's how I see the current pecking order...Sobotka and Parsons by necessity will be in roles they may not be ready for

I know I should be upset that our bullpen blew open a close game, but at least Carle and Jackson are good #value. On the plus side, Julio was mostly fine, and if he pitches like this as a #4/#5 I'll be more than happy. And hey!!! Matt Joyce is leading the team in HRs and RBI. That's gotta be a nice surprise, right??

Carle and Jackson will be gone as soon as O’day and Minter return. It is what it is with so many guys out.

If we wait to be fully healthy, we'll be waiting a while. Teams are almost never fully healthy in the pen. That we have to rely on Carle and Jackson shows how little depth we have. That's a problem.

Not really. Add Gohora (who was probably planned for the pen) and Soroka would be starting with probably Fried in the pen...as with Wilson. Folty and Gausman being out has also pulled from guys the might normally be slated to be pen guys. Our pen will be fine in a few weeks.

It's too early to start relegating kids to the pen. Some will end up there, but they need to be given more time to see who succeeds as a starter.

To me Fried and Gohora don’t really qualify as kids and we have two guys injured. I see what you are saying though.

***To be truthful I am maybe most disappointed with our lead off hitter going 0-4 with no walks and three strike outs (two of them the strike three looking type). Absolute joke to have him lead off.

This all day long. Just bc we have so many starting pitching options doesn’t mean we should send them to the bullpen. Fried should either be given the chance to start or be traded. Same for any others.
