Tomorrow, Wright and Swanson are going to Anchor Down and turn those frowns upside down.

This is extended Spring Training for him, he'll be dialed in by the trade deadline.

I wonder how Philly would look in this series if we took away their two top starters and two of their three top relievers?

Yes they hit some dingers. They paid thru the absolute nose for those guys. When our pitching settles down (and it will)....many of those dingers will go away.

Donaldson will come around (didn’t play much in spring). How about Dansby!!

This team might not come out of the gate sprinting like last year, but it “should” be a much more dangerous team late in the season and postseason.

As long as we can stay around .500 until we get healthy and some bullpen help, we will be fine.
Even when healthy I don’t trust this bullpen though.
Was really surprised at how average Wilson’s stuff was.
Unless he’s a location master, I don’t see how he can be much more then a fringe back end rotation option.
We knew the Phils spent big and were going to be improved. No time to panic yet after 2 games.

I'm not ready to give up on Wilson yet. He's not gonna overpower like Folty but I think he'll have better command than Wisler. I also like his body language on the mound. Wisler used to look like dear in headlights whenever things went south. Wilson still looks composed even when under stress. So I would like to give him a few more starts before completely disowning him.

Wilson is the prototypical back end starter. Good control / decent velocity / no out pitch.

He can be a useful piece but unless he can command his changeup better he may not even be back of the rotation material.

Yup - And, with Folty coming back the rotation starts looking pretty good although that means its down to Wright/Fried and I have a suspicious the organization wants to give Wright the chance.

What gets me about this early start is not the losses. But watching the editions flounder. Wonder if the older guys are going to bite us in the end. Notice the faillies got stars pre 30 years old. They might have paid a pretty penny for them but they got them and now look to have a solid team. If their pitching can hold up.

I don’t have access to my pitch data until I get back to work, but the small amount of data we got from Wilson’s last start suggests he has added movement to all 3 of his pitches. That’s good news.

The bad news is he lost more than 2 mph off the fastball. Hopefully that was an anomaly.

Wilson at 95 with improved movement on everything is probably better than the 4/5 he appeared to be last year...if the velocity comes back.

That suggests Fried is taking Wilson’s spot and Gaus is taking Wrights spot, or they will mix and match a bit with 6 guys.

I doubt we will ever see a 6 man rotation although it would be interesting to see how a manager can juggle it while using the '6th' guy as a 2-3 inning reliever the weeks he doesn't start.

    Day 1:Folty
    Day 2:Gaus (Fried available)
    Day 3:Teheran(Fried available)
    Day 4:Newk
    Day 5:Wright
    Day 6:Folty
    Day 7:Gaus
    Off Day
    Day 8:Fried (Wright available)
    Day 9:Teheran (Wright available)
    Day 10: Newk

Seems challenging to manage over the course of a full season but you can certainly give your pen a nice rest.

The Braves are going with a 4 man bench and carrying 5 SPs despite only needing 4 SPs this week. They are going to use a lot of SPs and give a lot of guys a lot of rest.
