    Wilson's improved slider

We heard quite a bit of talk about Wilson improving his slider during ST. It looks like someone worked some magic and taught Fried a nasty slider, so maybe the same person helped Wilson improve his.

I'm not at work so I don't have access to my MLB pitch data, but these are the MLB grades for the 3 pitches Wilson throws:

    Grade vFA X Z
    80 99.5 10.5 12.5
    70 97.5 8.7 11.4
    60 95.4 6.9 10.2
    50 93.3 5.2 9.1
    40 91.2 3.4 7.9
    30 89.1 1.6 6.8
    20 87.0 0 5.6

    Grade vSL X Z
    80 91.5 8.1 -5
    70 89.2 6.3 -2.6
    60 86.9 4.4 -0.5
    50 84.6 2.5 1.6
    40 82.3 0.6 3.6
    30 79.9 0 5.7
    20 77.7 0 7

    Grade vDelta X Z
    80 14.0 11.9 -2.5
    70 11.9 10.5 -0.1
    60 9.8 9.1 2.5
    50 7.7 7.7 4.9
    40 5.7 6.3 7.4
    30 3.6 4.9 9.8
    20 1.4 3.5 12.0

Based on the data from Wilson's first start...

    FA: 93.1 mph (Grade ~50), -5.2" X-Mov (Grade ~50), 8.8" Z-Mov (Grade <50)

The velo is down from last year, but the movement is up. As long as this isn't a sign of declining stuff, this is pretty much the definition of an average FA.

    SL: 80.5 mph (Grade >30), 3.3" X-Mov (Grade ~55), -2.3" V-Mov (Grade ~80)

So we heard about the SL adding downward bite, which it has. It's now a very slow downer SL, and we saw Flowers mention he didn't think it was his good SL so he didn't call for it often. I'm not sure how such a slow SL will work, but it has very good movement and is easily a plus (60+) pitch.

    CH: 8.8 mph delta (Grade ~55), -10.4" X-Mov (Grade ~70), 0.7" V-Mov (Grade >65)

This is a good CH with excellent movement. This pitch is id definitely a plus or better offering and is the key to him being able to navigate a lineup as a SP.

So a 50 FA, a SL that's hard to grade but probably 60 or better, and a very good change. That's the makings of a solid 3/4 that can perform even better if the command allows those pitches to play up.
