    GD the last three games have been sobering....but take 3/4 from the snakes and it’s a dang good road trip. (Thanks to Miami obviously). Good news is we are hitting enough and pitching help (And Riley) is coming up soon..

    Until we can even be competitive much less win vs the Dodgers we can’t be taken seriously as a legit WS contender.
    Until we find a consistent 3rd starter and bullpen we are on the .500 shuttle.
    I understand why we didn’t sign a starting pitcher this offseason with all the young arms we have but Keuchel and Kimbrell sure would fit in nicely right now...

    Let's just get a split in Arizona to go .500 on this road trip.

    Wonder what the hold up on getting venters back up is. At AAA...

    Era = 0.00
    FIP = 2.90
    Bb9 = 2.57

    Tough series, for sure. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see we're just not in the same league as the Dodgers right now. Thankfully for us, there's time, we have resources and our window is long. Still, very frustrating.

    Minter almost has to be sent down at this point.

    Venters for minter is an obvious move

    Very much so. If anything, give Minter a place to work consistently and get over this hump. From what I can see, his stuff looks fine, but I'd love if Enscheff would break it down further so I can know if this is for sure or not.

    Minter's cutter is such a garbage pitch. It's just a slower fastball. There needs to be more of a difference in velocity between that pitch and his fastball.

    Minter is the same pitcher he was last season. Lacks an out pitch so his command has to be almost pin point for him to be effective. He leaves a lot of cookies for hitters to tee off on. He can be valuable, used correctly. But definitely not a closer.

    This is incorrect in several ways. The cutter is a hard slider, and it is almost exactly the same pitch it was last year. Last year is was a good pitch, and it's still a good pitch.

    Minter has 2 issues...

    1. His FA has lost a tick from last year, but we saw him start off last year with lower velocity before ramping up in the middle of a season and then tapering off at the end of the season. Hopefully he can build up the velocity as the season drags on.

    https://www.fangraphs.com/graphs.asp...FA&ymin=&ymax=

    2. Simply put, his control is garbage. He is walking 6.55 per 9 after walking only 3.32 per 9 last year. I use BB/9 as an overall proxy for control, and no pitcher is going to succeed with control that poor.

    The LOB% and BABIP and HR/FB and FIP/xFIP show he is also getting a bit unlucky, but the control is the real issue. Minter pretty much came out of nowhere to be a weapon in the BP, so we don't really have a long professional track record to look at when judging his control. It's pretty obvious he needs to tighten it up and shave at least 2 BB/9 off his current mark to be anywhere near as effective as we expect Minter to be.

    Again, claiming Minter "lacks an out pitch" couldn't be further from reality. He has 2 "out pitches".

    His control certainly doesn't need to be pinpoint to be effective, but it needs to be better than 6.5 BB/9 terrible.

    The hope has to be that the ST setback has had a ripple effect affecting the early portion of the season and he will get himself straightened out. He is too talented to be performing this poorly.

    "Lacks an out pitch" seems to get thrown around a lot here in reference to pitchers that clearly do not lack out pitches.
