Had a great 2017, which is about the only solid thing on his record.

I like this deal for the M's. More chance they get something out of Biddle than we get something out of Swarzak. But ya never know. Swarzak might turn into a poor man's Bud Norris.

Yeah, I’d like to keep Biddle toiling in the minors to see if he can regain some of his form from last year. He’s still got great stuff, he just completely lost all command this year.

Viz is probably done, so that’s a wash.

i see your point, but this is comparing 1/15 appearances to 4/9 appearances. if 14 of 15 things are good, that's much better than 5 of 9 things being good.

This is basically saying take this guy who we don’t want and I will take your guy who you don’t want and let’s make sure the money is how it was. Most likely neither guys does much for either team.

40% of his flyballs allowed are homers so far, so maybe he won't keep giving one up every other appearance. Velocity looks pretty well in line with his norms. He's giving up an alarming amount of hard contact, but GB/FB/LD are close to normal. His fastball has been a bad pitch and slider about average.

Uneducated guess, he's lost some movement on his fastball and it's not a competitive MLB pitch any longer, and he only has one other average pitch and is nibbling as a result, leading to the increased walk rates since 2017. Where have we seen this repertoire before?

Swarzak appears to be more of a flash in the pan than a legit good pitcher who is currently struggling.

I guess the cost makes it a pretty low risk gamble though.
