He's been awful since his 2017 season, but hey, you've got to try something, right? I'm interested to see what the monetary numbers are.

Awful this year - 81 ERA+, six homers and eight walks in 13 2/3 IP. Awful last year, too.

Had a great 2017, which is about the only solid thing on his record.

I like this deal for the M's. More chance they get something out of Biddle than we get something out of Swarzak. But ya never know. Swarzak might turn into a poor man's Bud Norris.

I'm hoping we have some data on Swarzak with a plan to tinker and get more out of him. Otherwise this seems like a latertal move while taking on salary.

Yeah, I’d like to keep Biddle toiling in the minors to see if he can regain some of his form from last year. He’s still got great stuff, he just completely lost all command this year.

Viz is probably done, so that’s a wash.

I would have assumed that there was insurance on Viz's contract (maybe not because of prior PEDs?), but maybe that's more of an FA and not an arb thing. Makes no sense to me either way.

i see your point, but this is comparing 1/15 appearances to 4/9 appearances. if 14 of 15 things are good, that's much better than 5 of 9 things being good.

We were likely going to lose Biddle anyway. Viz is out for the year and a FA this offseason. Seattle kicked in money to even out salaries.

I don’t really see any possible downside. If he sucks, he gets cut.

Is it not concerning to folks that Seattle had to kick in money to make this trade work?
We really will be hurt so bad by taking on a couple million more in salary that we had to get Sea to throw in money?
And people are saying we have 30 plus million to spend this winter??To me this trade as small and insignificant as it is, speaks volumes about where the Braves are financially, how they think business wise and how much they really had to spend this past winter and will going forward.
I hope the Braves sign CK after the draft but I wouldn't count on it.

I don't see this as saying anything about the payroll. It was a swap of pieces each team wanted to get rid of and there was no incentive for the Braves to take on payroll to add a guy like Swarzak. Making it money neutral makes sense with both sides trading guys they no longer want just hoping a change of scenery helps someone or that someone can get healthy.

This trade is like me giving you my broken hot tub in exchange for your broken motorcycle, and I kick in $50 to pay the amount your power bill increases while you have the hot tub plugged in trying to fix it.

I don't think it has any bearing on what the Braves can afford to add to the roster.

you just complained that the Braves spent less money on a crappy reliever than they could have.
