The length of his AAA start will likely dictate when he is MLB ready.

Typical ST starts go 2, 3, 4, 5 innings, then a short tune up start before opening day.

I’m guessing he makes a 3-4 inning start, then 1-2 more, then off to Atlanta. That should be around the last week of June?
But according to Boras he's been throwing up to 95 pitches every 5 days in simulated games.

    Very hard to say...

Soroka threw less than 60 innings last year, threw 153 the year prior, and has thrown almost 70 this year. Hard to say how many they let him throw this year.

I'm guessing each guy gets 2-3 more starts while DK gets ready, and if someone doesn't get hurt, the Braves will have a very interesting decision to make. A quasi 6 man rotation where Fried and Soroka get a lot of days off is also possible.

Yeah, hard to gauge this as it's fairly uncharted territory.

Guess we'll see his conditioning Saturday. I hope he's ready sooner rather than later.

So...would anyone bite on just trading for Gausman ? I know he wouldn’t fetch much but still has a year of control and could free that cash up.

If Fried continues to struggle, you may be right, I think more likely is we go to sort of a 6 man rotation to keep Soroka and Fried's innings down. May utilize their options and give them a 10 day rest once or twice a month.

We didn't sign DK because Gaus is struggling (more just getting unlucky). We signed DK because Soroka and Fried are on innings limits. Gaus is going nowhere, and he'll bounce back sooner than later.

There will definitely be minor league assignment rests given to those two. If we want any shot of competing in the playoffs both of those guys needs to be healthy and pitching effectively.

This Keuchel signing will put the #Braves payroll at about $136M. Should have enough to trade for at least one prominent reliever before the trade deadline.
I didn't think we would approach a $140 million payroll this year. That's really encouraging for long term success.

we can all see how this type of contract is far preferable to what Kimbrel got, right? hard not to like it a lot.

My homerism would rather have had Kimbrel. But finding a SP the quality of DK at the deadline would have proven very difficult and likely more costly than finding a high end reliever (or two). I'm just glad we came away with one of them.

McGuirk has said 140M is the target for 2020. Full-season not opening day, and apparently including 4-5M for payroll churning (carrying extra guys on the DL, etc).

I'm not sure how DOB comes up with the 136M number. I had us at 116M opening day (this includes Duvall), and now we are at 129M.

Very valid point. Not only terms matter here But the ease of obtaining a reliever is a big factor in AAs decision

don't get me wrong, i would've loved to see Kimbrel back in a Braves jersey. would've felt right.

I think CK would have fit the roster better had he been willing to take the contract DK was given.

Knowing their price tags, the DK move was clearly preferable as long as it didn't make trading for a legit BP arm impossible.

And I agree with everyone claiming it's easier to trade for BP help than a SP of DK's caliber.

Nice break down on the DK move at FG:

    https://blogs.fangraphs.com/dallas-k...ds-to-atlanta/

    Highlights:

    - Author thinks it's Gaus to the BP, and that's hard to strongly disagree with.
    - DK increases the Braves projected win total from 87 to 88.
    - Playoff odds increased from 72.8% to 80.6%, WS odds increased from 4.2% to 5.1%.

All in all, a pretty good add for the $13M the Braves had extra due to signing Markakis cheaply.

If Gaus and Folty look to be getting straightened out by the time DK is ready, Fried may be the correct choice for the BP.

Fried in the BP lessens the need to add a LH BP arm via trade.

Fried likely also has an innings limit...consider:

    2016: 103 IP
    2017: 118 IP
    2018: 111 IP
2019: 66 IP, will be 80+ by the time DK is ready

I'm thinking they may do something more creative to lessen workloads than simply sending a guy to the BP.

I’d hate to put Fried in the bullpen after the strides he’s made this year as a starter.

it's more because he'll be on an innings limit tho. he shouldn't pitch 150+ this season.
