    Current farm system rankings

A few years ago when the work done to calculate prospect value was first published in the public sphere, I went through the exercise of adding all the values up for all teams to see who had the best farm system overall. Luckily for me, FG now does this grunt work for us:

    https://blogs.fangraphs.com/pre-draf...stem-rankings/

We see the Pads and Rays in a tier all by themselves, and the Braves leading the rest of the pack. I question the value of the lower end guys, specifically because a teenage 40 should be valued differently than a 40 in his early 20s, but overall the numbers are solid.

The Rays ability to have an elite farm while also being 35-19 in the AL East with a budget equal to what the Yankees spend on office supplies is simply remarkable. They are pretty clearly the best FO in the game, and possibly in all of sports. If that brain trust moves into a market that multiplies their resource several-fold, the rest of MLB may be in big trouble.

The Braves join other impressive organizations like the Pads and Astros as teams with great farms and a good MLB team.

It's going to be pretty painful for the Royals, and probably for a long time. No money. No talent. Ouch.

When the Mets hired a GM, the finalists were Van Wagenen and Chaim Bloom of the Rays.

    God bless the Wilpons.

Leading the pack on $/player by a hefty amount. Only team in double digits.

I still think his firing was so strange. He hit on so many players (or at least that’s the way it appears to this point).

I really, really hope this move does not come back to bite us

It certainly appeared to be a result of the Stewart fiasco. Almost something along the lines of, “draft Stewart or I resign”, and then the bad medical set off irreversible events fueled by a few stubborn egos.
