I'm still bitter about how severe the punishment from Coppygate was. No other team ever caught doing similar stuff was punished one tenth as severely.

Total of 10 kids so far getting 4th round or higher money? We are hoping for 11. Is that right? Even at a roughly 2/3 fail rate we'd be looking at 4 out of the draft making the bigs. 4 per class is decent return, right?
Anyone know the percentage of 4th round and above picks that don't make it?

Kinda have to think they'll just ride it out unless there's someone out there that they're as high on as the previous regime was on Maitan though, don't you? Might help explain all the HS signings and higher floor picks that are closer from this draft - one more year, and things will be back to normal. If they're able to be aggressive with promotions for Langeliers/Shewmake/Kalich and you've added a healthy Weigel and Beck back to the equation, you can really take your time with Tarnok, De La Cruz, Daysbel Hernandez, Vodnik, C. J. Alexander, Trey Harris, etc..

Is there any real negotiating room at this point though? The Braves should know what the max they can offer is, and should be able to show their math.
Something else to keep in mind is where this kid is. If he was in rural Mississippi that $500k would be enough to buy an estate. In SoCal that buys a closet.
Go get him!

It's an interesting tax question. If he works in Florida (the GCL) but is a California resident in which state does he have to pay income tax on his signing bonus.

Their bonus pool is $0 this year and next, but bonus pool calculations kick in at individual bonuses above $10,000, so they can sign as many as they want for $10,000 apiece without penalty. And, as others have said, they can trade for bonus pool money. I believe the other stipulation is that they were prohibited from signing Robert Puason.
Which I hope doesn't turn into the most damaging part of the whole mess - Puason looks like he could turn into an absolute beast that sticks at SS, and the fact that an organization as cheap as Oakland went out and gave him that kind of money AFTER losing out on Murray really makes me worry that one is going to hurt as much as anything else.

Those sanctions are bullcrap. MLB has taken every ****ing little advantage the Braves might find to allow them to compete with MLB's biggest market teams. They have given our main division rival a secret loan while they had a 160 million payroll. Novel concept, if you cant pay your team then cut the god damned salaries like the Braves are expected to do. Remember TBS? Braves were getting 40 million a year way back then. MLB had the gall to **** our TBS **** up and say it was to stop an unfair advantage for the Yankees.... First they said, "you small/mid market teams are not allowed to profit off any region we dont deem is yours no matter how much that unfairly advantages the big market teams" and made us split the TBS money with all other teams. That wasnt good enough for them. Then they decided to force the Braves to charge more until TBS could no longer afford it. Pretty ****ed up now that teams are doubling our payroll and get to sign top free agents like Tanaka for nothing but cash but we are the cheaters. **** MLB.

The cheaters are the ones who blocked any and every attempt to level the playing field. If theres a boxing match and your weight is limited to 205 and the opponents weight is not limited and they can bulk up as much as they then **** yeah I am going to cheat. I hope all our players take undetectable PED. Why should I want to preserve the unbalanced playing field that MLB purposely designed to give certain teams a big advantage. I didnt even bring up that MLB rubber stamped the WORST tv deal in professional sports to a TimeWarner owned company by TimeWarner while they were in the process of selling the team but veto'd a 2 billion dollar deal for the Dodgers because it wasnt enough money.
Before you say "Well the Braves owners could spend 200 million a year if they wanted to", as part of the sale MLB specifically stipulated that Liberty could not pump money into the Braves to increase value and that the team had to revenue neutral.
