Other then that he's a pretty average pitcher. I understand wanting to limit the innings of Beachy and Wood but they are more talented then Arroyo. And he likely wants more then a 1 year deal and I don't think that would be a good move for the team.
A pitcher who gives 200 innings every year with slightly better than league average stats almost across the board would be a huge upgrade for this team. I think, at this point, that he would take a two-year deal with a team option for the third year. This team needs something more than a few September options if they can manage to get/stay healthy. Most likely, two starters are going to go down in the first half. My bet is that it will be Teheran and Beachy (if we start him). We are going to desperately need innings or the bullpen is going to be a mess by September.

We need good innings not mediocre ones at market value.

I don't disagree, but I think mediocre is unfair. He is consistently slightly better than average.

Even if you take out his horrible 2011 he's been a 1.5 WAR pitcher since 2009. He might be slightly better then mediocre but the bulk of his value is the fact he can pitch 200 innings. Now that's certainly something this team needs but I would rather not have to pay market value for that over for more then one year. Which is what I think it would take.

Cost is certainly something that should be considered, including the cost of not making a move.

I agree, but Arroyo said recently that he hasn't received a single offer this entire offseason, so perhaps that market value is rapidly depreciating. It wouldn't surprise me if he ultimately went for an incentive-laden one year pact (with option).

Don't get the love for Arroyo. I mean he wouldn't be bad on a really cheap deal. But that's about it. He'll throw about 200 innings and have an ERA around 4. Could have a trainwreck season though as well. THere's certainly some value to that, but I'd rather roll with the upside of Wood and Beachy then use a roster spot on Arroyo.

Currently our rotational depth is something like

    Medlen
    Minor
    Julio
    Beachy
    Floyd (when he returns)
    Wood
    Garcia
    Hale

Of course Freddy could opt out. But then we have more depth in the high minors as well. Graham, Martin, Northcraft and Schlosser, not to mention guys who may graduate to AA in Sims, Hursh, and Cabrera, depending on how dominant they are in A+ and if the Braves feel they're ready to fast track them. Thanks to Wren's drafting we have a lot of depth, and now we're at the point where the talent is starting to move up from the lower minors so we'll soon potentially have impactful depth.

Arroyo would be someone who'd likely take the spot of Beachy, I'd rather gamble on Beachy's upside than the comfort of Arroyo. And if Beachy fails we have plenty of options behind him.

Reed Johnson signs with the Marlins (minor league deal).

... and Arodys Vizcaino was apparently hitting 98 in winter ball.

Getting Reed on a minor league deal would've been nice.

Arodys has a sick arm, health is a concern but if he does stay healthy at worst he'll be a closer.

We could've if we wanted, Reed loved being a Brave and his dad is a huge Braves fan. I am sure he'd rather signed back with us than with Miami.

Hard to find a place for him. We have Heyward, Justin, BJ, Schafer, Constanza, Doumit, Terdoslavich, Cunningham competing for outfield jobs. As things stand, our AAA outfield is Constanza, Cunningham, Terdoslavich.

Even being injured and having a rough year, he was one of the top pinch-hitters. - .289 .386 .395 .781 Second highest OPS for anyone with more than 35 at-bats as a pinch-hitter. Best OBP.

Royals not Blue Jays. The Bravos should think about putting a claim. They've tried to trade for him in the past.

Good day for the Braves so far. Now if only they would go ahead and announce the Uggla trade.

I think the only thing some of us thought was that he would have made more sense than Eliot Johnson last August.

Bonifacio might make more sense than Schafer. Can play CF and 2b as opposed to just CF.
