I know it's wrong to hate Jeter just because of the media nonsense surrounding him, but stuff like this makes it really, really hard not to.

Proof that one can be a legit HoF-caliber player and still be overrated.

Man, it is not easy to spot links in this forum software, is it?

Indeed, the numbers on a prospective Trout deal remain a fascinating topic to watch. ESPN.com's Buster Olney weighed in on the issue in an appearance on WEEI's Mut & Merloni (via Jerry Spar of WEEI.com). The club is feeling the pressure to sign Trout before his free agent horizon gets too close, said Olney, and baseball sources say that a 12-year, $400MM deal would not be an unfair target for the young superstar. Asking several GMs what they thought Trout could land on a one-year deal, Olney was given prices in the range of $35MM to a remarkable $50MM.
From MLBTR.
Haha so true.
Maybe they'll elect them together in 2020.
It also shows a total lack of knowledge of the past. The reason the dimaggio exception was because he was on the ballot in 53 and 54. The exception wasn't just for him, it was for anyone who was already on a ballot. Making an exception just because of a bunch of moronic yankee fans is just that.

Ryan Dempster going to sit out this year. Wow. Didn't see that coming...
Looks like the Orioles are going to get Ubaldo Jimenez at 48M over 4 years. That would be a great signing. Looks like the teams that waited did best as far as starting pitching goes. I like the Jimenez and Garza deals for the teams.
The Orioles do lose their first round pick. That is the one downside for them.
As things currently stand, the Braves will have the 26th pick and probably the 33rd pick in the MLB draft.

A great deal for the Orioles, who basically struck out on every middling pitcher available this offseason only to be rewarded with a premium pitcher at a bargain price.
This was closer to like 07 or so I believe. I'm pretty sure it was around the Andy Marte time frame, not sure if it was before or after he was traded. But he still basically refused to swap over despite the organization at least discussing the possibility about him moving to 1b.
Not that I care really. IMO, Chipper earned the right to able to say/do that, much the same way Jeter earned to right to stay SS if he wanted to. And it isn't like Jeter is a butcher at SS, even if he has been steadily overrated defensively over his career. He's still able to field his position reasonably well.

No chance.
Prob 10 for 250 if I had to imagine. The Angels do hold "some" negotiating power as Trout will be very cheap for the next 2-3 yrs. Wouldn't make much sense to offer him the richest contract in the history of the gane at this point in time when they still have several cheap yrs left.
