There is no chance he make 15-20 mill his first yr of arby. Even if he makes 20 million in his last yr of arby, that is still way cheaper than paying him 30+ million per yr.

I thought he meant premium as Ubaldo is a premium pitcher.

Don't be so sure. Howard got 10 million in 2008 which is the current record I believe. And that would be 7 years ago and baseball salaries have inflated since then. And Trout is undoubtedly a much better player then Howard was when he went into arbitration. And that's without even looking at defense.

I never said they shouldn't lock him up. But no player has ever even sniffed 300 million, much less 400 million like you said. But the Angels are going to give Trout 400 million extension why? They would be bidding against themselves at this time.

    Trout isnt like most players.

He just had two all-time great years at 21-22.

    He would be worth it.

Homer Bailey gets a 105M extension over 6 years from the Rojos. Covers his last arb year at about 10M and 5 free agency years at about 19M/year. Will affect the market for extensions for guys like Lester and Masterson who are also a year from free agency. Interesting to see what Bailey is getting compared to Ubaldo Jimenez.

Not as directly relevant for any potential extensions to Minor and Medlen, but those guys will be watching too.

I know Bailey has a ton of potential, but hasn't he only been a slightly better than average pitcher the last couple of seasons? ERA+ of 112 and 110 the last two years...2.5 and 3.2 WAR in those years.

It does seem an overpay. He and Jimenez are similar imo. Main difference is the draft pick the Orioles are giving up. But we shouldn't exaggerate that. The Reds by re-signing Bailey are giving up on the draft pick they could have potentially received when Bailey would have hit free agency.

Homer Bailey is not worth $19M AAV. That's ridiculous!

Weren't there rumblings about trying to trade for him last season too? Like I said a ton of potential, but that is a lot...plus a 25 million option. Seems pretty crazy.

At this rate the Braves won't be able to sign any meaningful free agents...they'll have to try and lock up their young players and hope that they get others developed in the minors before the contracts are up.

    Highly doubtful we extend Medlen.

He'll be 30 once he hits FA.

    Minor OTOH will be interesting.

We have him for 4 more years of team-control but an extension would make sense.

Dont know what kinda terms though given the crazy SP contracts thrown out lately.

That fact actually might depress his market and make him an easier sign for the Braves. Meanwhile, Minor's being a lefty, being younger, and being more of a strike-out starter likely makes him more attractive to most teams, and thus more costly to extend.
