TUESDAY MINORS FINAL 6/4/19; Four Rome Braves named all-stars

Four Rome Braves were named to the South Atlantic League All-Star Game Tuesday. Named starting right fielder Trey Harris is atop the Braves' All-Star quartet, as Harris leads the league in average (.366) and OPS (1.031) and has compiled the second-most hits (74) and third-most RBI (44). Infielder Greg Cullen and catcher Logan Brown also garnered starting spots, while Jose Montilla secured a pitcher slot.
But Harris got more good news Tuesday, as he was promoted to Advanced Class A Florida.

With trey Harris prompted to Florida, Jeremy Fernandez promoted to Rome. He had some really interesting numbers in the GCL last year.

Kyle Wright has been pretty brutal at both levels this year. Wasn’t really an exciting year for him last year either.

So far he’s had a strong couple weeks of spring training, and not much to be excited about besides that.

I should know this, but when is the soonest that draftees could join farm teams?

Believe it’s just as soon as they sign. But I’d imagine everyone will start with GCL or Danville, which start in a few weeks.

Yeah, I'm a fan of his. I wanted him to be a part of the BP moving forward. Glad he's getting consistent opportunities, though.

Last night looked to be some pretty rotten luck. He K'd 5 in 4 innings with 0 BBs and no HRs. Giving up 5 runs on 7 hits with none of them being HRs is usually some pretty terrible luck. Looking at the play by play there were a lot of ground balls finding holes and softly hit balls to the outfield that fell in.

In fact, he's had some pretty bad luck all year at AAA, particularly in the HR/FB department. Before last night, 23.1% of the FBs he's given up have left the park. That's extremely unsustainable.

If you account for his bad HR luck, his numbers improve greatly. They're not nearly as good as they should be but they're not as awful as they look at first glance

Considering the K's and the lack of BBs, I'd consider last night a step in the right direction. If he keeps pitching like that, the balls put into play will start finding fielders and he'll start putting up the numbers he's truly capable of.

Appalachian League starts June 18 and the Gulf Coast League on June 24. Guys who sign initially report to the Florida complex and decisions on where folks go is made from there. Kind of a short window for the Appalachian League, but there's already a bunch of guys down in Florida who will likely start the season in Danville. My guess is that Langeliers and Shewmake play a few games in Danville and are in Rome shortly thereafter (provided they sign quickly).

It wouldn't surprise me if Langeliers skipped a level or two and ended the season in Mississippi. For some reason I get the feeling the front office has the idea that he could be the starting catcher out of ST next year.

That would be a big jump, but certainly not out of the question if he shows he can hit consistently with a wood bat. I could easily see two weeks in Danville, a month in Rome, a month in Florida, with a week in Mississippi. It's all going to depend on his bat. From the comments from the team surrounding the pick, the clearly love the guy and the player development staff has shown no hesitation in aggressively promoting guys over the past couple of years.

feel like 90% of catchers are weird and take longer to develop into good major leaguers than people think when seeing them in the minors..hope they go stop-gap for another year at least.

I expect Langeliers and Shewmake to spend most of the summer in the Florida League, and start next season in AA.

I completely agree. I think it would be borderline insane to have this kid starting at catcher out of ST next year. However, given the way they talked about him after drafting him and the uncertainty at catcher after this year, it wouldn't surprise me if they try to do it.

I hope they get a stop-gap for at least another year. It could be several years before he's ready.

    Very disappointing.

Now we know why Bridges was dismissed.

Fractured his hamate early in the season but only missed three weeks. I do remember reading that hamates can bother people for the rest of the season though, so that will be interesting to see how much they push him this year. The big thing hamates are supposed to do is limit power the season that it happens, which actually makes his numbers (and reportedly impressive exit velocity) this year more impressive.
