stoopid front offices that might be fun to trade with: KC, The Metropolitans, Seattle, Marlins

    hint hint

Anyone have an opinion on the Tigers front office? They had some good offers on Fulmer that they failed to pull the trigger on.

I think the Tigers are pretty dumb... that's why I'm targeting Boyd because I think we could get them enamored with someone we are trying to shop. Don't know who it would be, though.

Might be on board for that. We did get Smoltz from them after all.

    And Jurrjens

Mentioned that in the other thread. No mention of anything, but it's the Yankees' feed.
The FO that needlessly promoted him early knew what they were doing and are paid to do this. We aren't, so we can't know more than them. Correction....they used to be paid to do this..

I also don't see the reasoning behind signing DK over CK, and I'm going to assume the Braves can only afford one of them. Like Bumgarner, DK would be an improvement in the rotation, but it seems like CK would be a bigger improvement in the BP.

I would add the Padres. Their GM is full on retarded.

I feel like the Tigers wouldn't be trading him if they believed in him. Could get just as much if not more this time next year if he maintains. I think at best he is a mid rotation starter who will more likely be a low 4's era pitcher.

It’s a matter of they aren’t even close to competing so might as well trade the assets you have for prospects that will help you down the road. He’s a solid pitcher. Keuchel Soroka Boyd wouldn’t be a bad 123 imo.

They should of traded Fulmer last year when they had the chance so I’m sure that’s heavy on their minds and probably why Boyd will he traded. Boyd is a power lefty with very good control. I’m in for a trade of him and Green.

They 100% couldn't get more if they waited until next year's trading deadline. That extra year of control has an immense amount of trade value. And why wouldn't the Tigers trade him? They aren't competing, they are rebuilding. They need prospects not a #2/3 starting pitcher.

I agree with that but MLB teams are often in denial about their rebuilding status. Like how Detroit was last year with Fulmer.

They won 64 games two years in a row and are now on pace to do significantly worse than that this year. If they still think they're even remotely close to competing, then that entire front office needs to be cleaned out and I wouldn't really care what their assessment of Boyd was.

Second wild card is killing the trade market. Even the Giants and Mets arent that far out. I guess this is good for the game.

Or they could be worried it could blow up in their face like holding on to Fulmer

Which is all the more reason they probably don't want to screw this up again. Detroit is an obvious team that is way way way away at the moment.

From the Tigers perspective it's not so simple. Boyd has really stepped it up this year. An acquiring team would be smart to partly discount his 2019 performance. If he repeats it in 2020 no one will be applying a discount. So it is possible his value would go up even while losing a year of control.

It is possible some team will not apply much of a discount at this years deadline. In which case the Tigres should accept the offer.

I would price Boyd as a 2.5-3.0 WAR pitcher right now. Probably closer to 2.5.
