I have no objection moving Anderson or Wright for someone who has performed like a fringe ace with four years of team control remaining. Cashing in a possible #2 for an established #2 with that much control seems unobjectionable.

I'm maybe still low on Pache compared to the sudden talk of him being a top 20 guy, but I don't see how the Braves could move him at this point. I'd also be holding Waters for the moment to see where he goes from here.

If the braves think any of them have peaked in value though, then that is another story, I guess.

True. But you want four that you feel comfortable choosing from, given injuries etc.

If they return to health and form, I'm good with Gauman and Folty being among those options. But that is a significant if, and July is running out of days.

I think I'm willing to wager on those guys being in postseason rotation rather than acquiring another #4 starter at cost. I don't think there is any WS or bust urgency to this season.

If they can acquire a front end guy with some control, I'd be more willing to pay.

Will say, I'm coming around on Stroman a bit. That would sort of put it in the BABIP gods hands.

If Anderson can bring in a haul, we should trade him. I worry about his lack of a 3rd quality pitch and his control issues. At AA, a dude with his skill set should not be walking guys the way he is.

    Castillo: 2.41 ERA, 3.67 FIP, 3.72 xFIP
    Soroka: 2.24 ERA, 2.95 FIP, 3.60 xFIP

Soroka's xFIP-ERA split is even bigger. Although FIP probably does tell the story better on him.
Aggression with prospects is fine, but being stupid is not. There should be a way to find a happy medium between a Pirates like idea of being overly cautious with prospects and going stupidly fast with prospects.

Castillo is definitely good, but he also has gotten lucky this year. It's ok to say both are true.
"Acuna is getting lucky, just like CJ did when he batted .321 and won a batting title. He is unlikely to get lucky at the MLB level over an extended period of time. He will settle in around .300-.320 just like everyone else, and when he does, he won't be within shouting distance of the 1.000 OPS he is posting in AAA...more like low .700s in 2018." -Enscheff 8/25/17

Think his walk rate is something like 2.5 over his last 50 IP.

I'm as interested as anyone else to see what happens when he is promoted.

But sure, if somebody wants to swap you a #2 with four years of control for him, it's probably a good idea.

It'll absolutely be a haul, but I'd definitely give up a lot for him. I'm just not about Anderson/Wright AND Pache/Waters. I'm more than fine with overpaying a bit, the guy is really good.

Castillo-Keuchel-Soroka-Fried-Folty/Gaus/Teheran is a damn good rotation.

I’m on the same page with you about the package but on no planet is a guy with 4 decent pitches with upper 90s heat and traditionally good control who’s only 26 a middle of the rotation starter

It was the middle of the rotation comment more than the luck comment I’m sure

    He’s barely walking anyone lately

FIP undersells Castillo, imo. He is a high strikeout and high GB pitcher who gives up weak contact. His high BB rate skews his FIP but the groundballs and K's overcome that a lot. To me he has pitched at the same level that Soroka has this season.

Castillo has a groundball rate of 55.9% this year compared to 51.5% for his career and 45.9% in 2018. It seems to me some regression in the groundball rate is likely.

While I'm not willing to declare Gausman "back" after 7 IP in AAA, this is what I hope happens. Soroka, DK, Gausman and a well rested Fried or "fixed" Folty is going to be pretty good. Nothing available on the trade market other than Thor will be a big enough upgrade over any of those guys to warrant the cost.

    AA...go get Will Smith.

Speaking of giants... they're now 46-49 and 3 games out of WC. There are 5 teams ahead of them, but they play 1 today. If they have another good week, they could be a real WC threat. I'm interested in what they do if they get within 2 games or so
