I like Lynn but how much of an upgrade would he be over Julio/Fried in a playoff series compared to what it costs to get him?
For me it’s Bauer/Thor/Wheeler or bust.
I’d be all for getting 2 solid BP arms to help shorten the game and be able to play matchups more freely.

Fried has been so-so lately and Gausman just got lit up, who knows what you'll get from Folty. And relying on guys like Touki, Wright, Wilson in a division race is quite risky.

Also, Lynn has really good numbers, and is on a great contract, around 9 mil next year and 11 the year after that. Has a 5 WAR, and a great FIP, near the top of the league in K's as well, so swing and miss stuff there. I do agree on Bauer/Thor/Wheeler though.

Wright + Davidson for Lynn would be a competitive offer.

Lynn is old having a career year... he’s had a history of big walk problems... just not this year. Don’t really want to pay a premium for someone who has a bad history of walks except in his career year

He is. I wouldn't price the offer based upon the assumption he will be a 5 win pitcher going forward. More like a 3 win pitcher.

Lynn just stunk in Minnesota last year. He seemed to find something in New York after he was traded in 2018, but as zb points out, his reduced walk rate is the likely reason for the uptick in 2019, but it's clearly outside his pattern and I don't know if one can bank on that.

If that’s the price then I’d be more open to it. Maybe I’m just mad because Lynn let me down a ton in fantasy a few years ago

He’s been a solid higher walk rate pitcher for his career. His norm is not this year and I wouldn’t bank on it starting a new norm at his age

According to sources, the Blue Jays had asked for better prospects from multiple teams, but all of them balked at the requests.

“What they asked for from us was a good bit more than what they got from the Mets,” one club source said.

Seems like the Jays simply overvalued those arms. They got the equivalent of 2 from Wentz/Muller/Allard...or about $10M in surplus value for Stroman.

Terrible value for the Jays, so it's hard to fault the Mets for making the move, regardless of their postseason chances in 2019.

Gausman’s outing enhanced ATL's need for a SP. Can’t assume the cutter (TrackMan reads minimal movement as a 4-seamer) or curve will improve significantly. He's a better pen candidate than Folty, whose success as a SP or reliever is dictated on regaining consistency w/ his slider

FWIW, I got Gray for Wright straight up in the simulator. But, considering Gray is an established #2/3 that they have signed through 2023, and they expect to compete next year, I’d have to think it would cost a good deal more than that, if they’re even willing to move him at all.

Gray's on a great contract for the next 3-4 years, and has been good since got away from NY.

Would cost alot, dont know if he's even available.

Unrelated, but the Braves got an extra year of control for Folty as well as Duvall. Both under control for 3 more seasons after this one.

If Folty was last years Folty we wouldn’t need another starter right now. Sucks.

Bob Nightengale reporting that GMs want the deadline pushed back to August 15th to allow more teams time to figure if they will be buyers or sellers. That is something that will be discussed this offseason at the GM meetings

Nightengale: The Atlanta #Braves have been calling numerous teams in recent days in search of an outfielder after Nick Markakis suffered a broken left wrist that will sideline him at least until mid-September, and perhaps for the rest of the season.

Pretty funny - and whiny - when you think about that.

The deadline has always been July 31st. GMs had the August 31st deadline to trade if they played badly following the deadline and fell out of it to try to dump their bad contracts for 50 cents on the dollar if they wanted to clear the books. With all the new data they have access to, there's little reason they need more time than the way things are structured now. Zaidi already knows they're not running the table. So do the other GMs that are on the outside looking in. AA knows the Braves aren't getting by the Dodgers without significant upgrades.

*hit or get off the pot.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

We don’t know if they would give that up or not. 95% of what we hear on the rumor market is misinformation
