If we trade with the Rangers get Gallo and use Neck off the bench. Won’t happen I know.
Looking around the game, i'm not even sure who is "selling"
KC, Tor, Det, Mia, Bal, CHW, Sea are the only teams not buried in the 2nd WC right now.
Everyone else is around 5 games back, so it's tough to know who is actually giving up now. Should know more in a week or so.
Cincy isn’t in a playoff hunt. Castillo still makes a lot of sense and sets us up well with another good young controllable starter to pair with Soroka.
If only it was as simple as being able to tell teams they are not in contention. GMs are trying to keep their job, not help the next GM have a great farm system.

It’s over."

That may or may not be reality, but I think that is a pretty tough sell to the GM of the Reds. They've basically been in a rebuild since 2014 and I don't think they're just gonna accept the notion that they'll still be in a rebuild in 2023.
Plus, I think you're kinda overstating the futility of their current situation. The Cubs are on the back end of their competitive window and have major issues to address moving forward. The Cardinals always seen to find a way to be decent, but that team doesn't appear to be approach juggernaut status any time soon. Outside of a few guys, a lot of the Brewer's core is either aging or on very short term deals. Plus their pitching isn't anything to write home about. I think its completely possible that the NL Central is wide open by 2021. Even more so than it is today.

Sometimes a GM is fully supported in a rebuild because everyone is on the same page and knows its the right thing to do. The Reds are currently 6 years removed from their last winning season and have a handful of young assets that they can build around. They don't fit the bill of a team that is going to be looking to rebuild. If they get a few breaks and make some good decisions, I could totally see them making a playoff push in 2020 or 2021.
