    What about Edwin Diaz?

The Mets gave up Kelenic, Dunn and Gerson(throw in) as part of the deal that brought back Diaz, Cano and cash ($20M). He has underperformed while there but still has closed 19 of 23.

If they really start selling, they may want (some) of their prospect capital back.

I was thinking about Diaz. It's not as if 2018 did not happen. Diaz could be an interesting trade candidate if the price is right. But I think we should be focusing on the Mets starting pitchers if they go into sell mode.

Diaz maybe profiles a bit more like a #2 reliever (realistic xwOBA seems to be in the .260 range) than the wildly dominant guy he was last season, but there is always the chance he does regain that form. Something he throws against lefties seems to maybe have some kind of flaw in it. He either Ks them or they knock the living hell out of it.

I would imagine the Mets would want you to pay them like he's last year's guy and that's a little too much egg on your face if you are the Mets to move him perhaps.

I love Wright but I’d offer him and Wentz plus another piece for Thor

Van Wagenen was Cano's agent. Just a bad look all around. Seattle did very well in that trade. The unexpected implosion of Diaz has just made it more one-sided.

Who in their right mind takes on that much remaining money on a contract for a 36 year-old second baseman with a suspension for performance-enhancing drugs.

An agent who has no business running a MLB team. It's absurd anyone thought he was qualified for that job.

Seriously, the Mets are a laughingstock of a franchise.

Another case of baseball card collecting disguised as acting as an actual General Manager of a professional baseball team.

Van Wagenen gave out a big extension to one ex client (deGrom), made a dubious trade for another (Cano) and handed out a free agent deal to a third (Familia).

If nothing else there is an appearance that he is making these decisions based on relationships rather than hard analysis.

What is amazing is that they also interviewed Chaim Bloom, the Rays VP of baseball operations, and chose Van Wagenen. Braves fans can count their lucky stars.

Though Freud would say exploring relationships is a big part of analysis.

Unless the chair is thrown because the pen failed to back up deGrom. It seems to me there is a problematic parent-child relationship here. Too much love?

If you’re not throwing chairs at your children, then you’re failing as a parent.

The question is why doesn't he throw a chair when the pen blows one of Syndergaard's games or Wheeler's games.

How do you think they feel about this.

I can tell you my own siblings suffered a lot because my parents were always asking why can't you be more like nsacpi.

Not all children are created equally.

It’s clear he really loves deGromm. If he didn’t, he wouldn’t throw chairs.

There is zero chance the Mets get that sort of prospect from anyone for Wheeler. He's a 2-3 month rental and while he's having a nice season, isn't like he's having a Cy Young type of season. The best the Mets should hope for is 50/55 FV pitcher or a 50 FV hitter. For us, that's among the Wilson/Wright/Muller group.

Wheeler has a 4.4 ERA and is a FA at seasons end.

At most, he'd cost a guy like Wentz or something.

Someone on twitter proposed the Braves trade Anderson, Riley AND Pache for DeGrom.

Awful to even hit send after typing that.

The top SP on the market appear to be Bumgarner, Stroman and Wheeler. None are really game changers but they'd still help the rotation. Not sure the cost of them given all but Stroman are FA's at seasons end.
