708 Beachy Rehabs Tonight; Minor League Report: Monday FINAL

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - Atlanta Braves' right-hander Brandon Beachy is slated to make his fourth minor league injury rehab start for the Gwinnett Braves on Tuesday, July 9 at Coolray Field, a 6:05 PM game against the Norfolk Tides. Beachy is on Atlanta's disabled list as he recovers from 2012 "Tommy John" surgery.

The 26-year-old pitcher initially began his rehab on May 19 and made five minor league starts between Class-A Rome, Double-A Mississippi and Triple-A Gwinnett. He went 2-1 with a 3.27 ERA (8 ER in 22.0 IP) in those outings, including May 29 with Rome vs. Charleston (win, 5.0 IP, 3 H, 0 ER) and June 3 with Mississippi at Chattanooga (win, 5.0 IP, 6 H, 3 ER).

Beachy is slated to make his fourth rehab start for Gwinnett. He's 0-1 with a 3.75 ERA (5 ER in 12.0 IP) in three previous starts, including his most recent rehab outing on June 13 at Rochester. In that contest, Beachy tossed a season-low 3.0 innings, allowing three runs on three hits in a losing effort. After the start, the right-hander's rehab program was shut down as he felt minor discomfort in his throwing elbow. Including eight games, seven starts with the G-Braves in 2010, Beachy is a career 3-1 with a 2.44 ERA (17 ER in 62.2 IP) in 12 outings with the Braves' Triple-A affiliate.

Last season, Beachy was tied for the Major League lead with a 1.98 ERA (17 ER in 77.1 IP) and led the Majors with a .171 opponent batting average prior to suffering a partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow on June 16, 2012. He exited Atlanta's game against Baltimore after 3.2 innings and was placed on the disabled list following the game. He underwent successful "Tommy John" surgery on June 21, 2012, performed by Dr. James Andrews.

In 13 games with the Braves last year, Beachy went 5-5 with a 2.00 ERA (18 ER in 81.0 IP). In 41 career Major League starts, he is 12-10 with a 3.07 ERA (81 ER in 237.2 IP).
    -----------
Moves of note over ghe holiday weekend (some reported, some celebrated): Gwinnett released left-hander Cole McCurry, who was drafted out of Tennessee Wesleyan back in 2007 by the Orioles, was let go after back-to-back outings where he allowed four runs in an inning. Before that, he was seemingly earning a job with three straight scoreless outings -- including a sharp three-inning, no-hits performance on June 15.

In 24 appearances for Gwinnett and Mississippi, McCurry was 1-1, 5.27 with a pair of saves.

In other moves, lefy Robert Fish was moved from Rome to Lynchburg. After more than a year out after Tommy John surgery, Fish is still working back to his pre-injury form. ... RHP Jeremy Fitzgerald, another TWC grad who was a 2012 Braves draft pick, has been activated and assigned to Rome.

Nice to see Salcedo taking at least a small step forward. He obviously still has a ways to go, but at least he's giving us some hope.

Hes taken major steps foward in his progression since most gave up on him. It seems he would take one step foward qnd two sts back every year. Dont know what position he plays though. Hope he sticks at 3rd because his bat van play thete. Might end up in lf. Nice to see lien doing well. I have high hopes.for him. Light the pick out of hs. Thought he jad potential.
