This is not the first case of alleged sexual assault at Falls Creek, a 400-acre campground nestled in the Arbuckle Mountains. The camp is owned by the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma, which is now called Oklahoma Baptists and is part of the SBC.
Benjamin Lawrence Petty pleaded guilty in 2018 to raping a 13-year-old Texas girl at the camp. Petty, who was a cook at the camp, tied a rope around the girl’s wrists, raped her and threatened to hurt her if she told anyone, according to investigators. Petty was ultimately sentenced to probation in the case, and a civil case filed by the girl’s family against the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma was settled. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed.

Needless to say, even though some of these allegations are shocking I do not believe they represent any sort of general proclivity toward pedophilia and other forms of depravity on the part of my Republican friends.

I do find it interesting that a sitting U.S. senator holds those kinds of views about a 13-year old being able to give consent. I suppose it might just be a cultural norm for certain parts of the country.

Is this true. I hadn't noticed. You mean there is a group of posters here who have tried to generalize that people they disagree with are pedophiles. I find that shocking. Surely it can't be true.

I am not just a father, but also very close friends with a family with a child (now adult) that decided to transition. I have known the child since age 3. I would say it is a difficult and anguishing question. And I leave it to each family to sort that out.

I don't want my Republican friends to feel like I'm singling them out. So how about Mary Ruwart, who sought the Libertarian Party's nomination in 2008. She had the following interesting comments about children and sex:
