    Some Roster Rotation Thoughts

We know about the AAA shuttle involving the pen.

It occurs to me it might make sense to activate the shuttle for position players.

Bring up Inciarte (when he is ready) and Duvall. Send down Riley and Camargo so they work things out and sharpen up. Culberson can provide some of the positional versatility Camargo does.

It will allow us to have a sharper group of players to select from when the rosters expand. Choose the guys who are going best for the post-season.

I would also start giving Joyce more time in the outfield regardless of who is called up or sent down.

Baseball is a results oriented business. These decisions need to be made based upon who is producing and who is judged most likely to produce over the next few months.

The only reason I can see that not happening is it would use up options on those players much quicker and other teams are going to be much more willing to use a waiver request on a solid bench player like camargo when his options are over. Relief pitchers that are riding the AAA shuttle are a dime a dozen, which allows them to pass through waivers much easier if their options are used up.
So while in theory it’s an excellent idea, I don’t see it being used at the same rate it is for relievers.

i feel like Riley's legendary start will keep him from being sent down. hope i'm wrong.
same way Markakis' reputation keeps him in the 5 spot (or starting as much as he does).

If we're gonna make the move to ender from Riley, today would be perfect (assuming ender is good to go)... 3 straight RHPs in Milwaukee

MY thoughts as well. His stats since the end of May are that of a replacement level player. His last 21 games, he has 14 hits in 81 at bats (whopping .189 average), with 5 walks and 31 Ks. But his torrid start is still fresh in the minds Snitker and the fans. He really needs to go back down and work on some things, though I also doubt it will happen.

Riley needs to play everyday, so he can't be the short side of a platoon in LF.

It's to the point where the correct move may be to go with Joyce platooned with Duvall/Camargo/Culberson in LF with Riley back in AAA. Either way, someone other than Riley needs to get more time in LF, and someone other than Markakis needs to be getting PAs vs LHP.

If only we had been able to see this massive regression from Riley coming...

i think swapping Riley and Duvall is something that continues to make some sense.

Seriously, though, almost everyone saw Riley's regression coming.

Really? Perhaps you should browse through this thread a bit:

Constant comps to Glaus. "His swing and easy power looks more in the line of Pujols or Miguel Cabrera".

Anywho...it's time to figure out what to do next in LF.

Riley in 8-hole tonight. Gotta figure he's feeling some pressure to get it turned around with ender looming

Ender is 3 for his last 10 with 1 K in AAA. He has about a week left on the rehab assignment before something has to happen.

Hopefully he is rounding into form and can take over CF sooner rather than later. The Braves certainly need help in the OF, and are lucky Riley’s magic lasted as long as it did.
