AA has been a good GM so far but his lack of focus on the pen in the offseason really hurt our depth moving forward. Allard at that velocity is very intriguing.
    Xwoba was .174.

Hitters had terrible swings against him. He must be able to hide the ball well because nothing was hit hard.

    Thats fantastic.

For reference, FG has Fried at 93.9 and we all know that he gets it up to 96-97 somewhat regularly.

That sounds right as he seem to drop a bit in the 6th inning before being taken out.

He looked great at that velocity, no doubt about that. I couldn't believe we traded him knowing he is back hitting 94-95 mph and averaging 93 mph through 6 innings.

true it was a night and day difference, averaging 93 mph through about 6 innings and topping out at 95 mph is a lot different than all that 88-89 mph we saw last year.

For a 2 month reliever rental?

AA got desperate. Not a good sign.

Allard is not a particularly big guy, so I wonder if he will be able to hold his velocity over long stretches. I've always liked him even though he fell behind our other guys.

Yea, I wouldn't have saw the trade as good if I knew he was hitting 95 mph and averaging 93 mph through six because I know he is a good pitcher. So you give him back that velocity and you certainly have something. Texas got a steal IMO if Allard maintains this velocity.

AA had to make some tough calls. I'm relieved we gave up Allard and Wentz rather than Ynoa.

yea time will tell, i always liked him too but once he fell to barely hitting 88-89 mph i thought he wouldn't get it back.

Not to mention that every time we’ve called a pitcher up they’ve thrown harder their first outing and then the velocity has declined over the next few starts. I’m sure in a few weeks Allard will be back to topping out at 90-91. This was his first call up of the year (and only 2nd overall) so he was hurling out there.

He was throwing in the high 80's last year for us. Clearly he was hurt and should have been shut down.

I agree that guys are amped up in their first outing but what we saw last year was a completely different animal.

Allard's next start is Tuesday at Toronto. Be interesting to see if he can pitch well again

Allard at 93 is a completely different animal than a Allard at 90.

Definitely something to keep an eye on.

Definitely not a fan of the trade if Allard is steady at 93.

Same here. Allard at 93 with his secondary stuff and command is a very valuable piece. Gotta wait and see if the velocity is for real, if it fades, or if he's doing something like sacrificing control for velocity.

The new BP arms have each faced about 20 whole batters with the Braves...or roughly 1 start for a SP.

This is moronically reactionary, even for this board...
