If done right, late in games now we should have the best outfield defense in MLB by putting Hamilton in CF, Acuna in RF and Duvall in LF. Hamilton can get to a lot of balls in CF and both Acuna and Duvall have strong arms to throw out runners at the plate. Plus both would be at their best positions.

Hamilton would effectively take over the role that Culberson had as a defensive replacement for Riley.

In the current setup, we are more likely to use Culberson in games we are behind and decide to pinch hit for Hech.

Will Snit use Culberson to pinch hit for Hech. though? If so, AA might have to tell him to do so.

Pinch hitting for Hech if we are behind late seems like a no brainer.

    Does it?

2018/2019 xwOBA for Culberson and Hech...

    Overall: .278 vs .277
    vs RHP: .260 vs .269
    vs LHP: .308 vs .299

If Culberson is a downgrade defensively, I don't think it makes much sense at all. They are very similar hitters, the only difference being Culberson's insane luck the last 2 seasons.

It probably makes more sense to PH for Hech with one of the OFers on the bench, and then bring in Culberson for SS (or move him over and let the PH move to the OF).

With Snit? lol If the pitcher is due behind him, then i could see Snit not doing so and suggesting after he was saving Culberson to bat for the pitcher.

Whatever the case, Culberson should start every game at short vs the Nationals. He owns them and if Swanson is out there is no excuse not to play him against them.

I had forgotten how much luck Culberson has had the past couple years. But I wasn't advocating pinch hitting for Hech with Culberson (although if we are out of bats and it comes to a choice of those two I would go with Charlie). Use a better hitter and then Culberson as the defensive placement at short.

Typically, Culberson should be in the OF vs LHP, meaning Joyce and Ortega will be on the bench. If a high leverage PA vs a RHP comes around (like 2 men on in a 1 run game in the 6th or later) and Hech is batting, it probably makes sense to PH Joyce for him and slide Culberson to SS. That still leaves Ortega on the bench to PH for the pitcher in another late game scenario.

Of course, the same goes for PHing Joyce for Culberson or Duvall in a similarly high leverage scenario. Perhaps even Duvall vs a LHP for Joyce or Ortega in a high leverage situation when a RHP started the game.

With the roster currently consisting of many incomplete players, it is up to Snit to determine which scenarios are high leverage, and which moves to make as a result. I don't have a lot of faith in him being able to pilot the ship in such a manner.

The front office, the beat writers, and the posters here pretty much all saying all the right things: pinch runner, late inning defensive replacement. Then we get Snitker in the dugout: "He's a switch hitter..."

NO. He isn't a hitter at all. Teheran should pinch hit before him.

What does BH's 0-2 appearance today tell us.

What valuable info can we extract from today. Anything else other than now he's going to get a world series ring on opening day next year?

That he's useless when hitting a fly ball.
