Wonder why we claimed him rather than try to sign him. Don't think the Dodgers would have claimed him...?

He’s getting Gausman’s money, as it were.

At the very least, this is a sign Gausman’s waiving wasn’t necessarily a reflection of dire financial position.

I was afraid this would happen, and really hoping it wouldn't. Snitker will absolutely overuse him (which is actually really easy to do in his case, as it just entails allowing him to touch a bat even once).

Not a bad move as long as he doesn't get any ABs.

AA added him to be a pinch runner who can back-up CF. It was going to be him or Lane Adams but once Ender got hurt that made Hamilton a better fit as he is much better in CF. Plus Adams is just now getting back in game shape so maybe wouldn't be ready anytime soon.

Nope. He’s a replacement level player who can play CF adequately. We’re doing a lot worse now in terms of bench pieces.

However, I could be mistaken on the claims process....does everyone have to put their claim in at the same time and the first in the order get him? Or does it go down the list of worst to first and every team has to pass before your team can make their decision?
I believe it’s the latter, and I believe if you claim someone you assume the entire remaining contract.

You do assume the remaining contract. So the Braves are on the hook for the remainder of his $5+m deal plus $1m buyout...(mutual option after this season)

I was wondering more of when teams have to actually put the claim in and what order that happens in...I know it goes in order of team with the worst record in their league to best record, then same for the other league.

Any reason to think this indicative of ender not making it back for the playoffs?

Wow. I guess Webb’s injury was worse than we thought. Explains why he wasn’t up here yet.

We're down to, like, a fifth-string outfield at this point. A warm body that can play center is kind of a necessity.

This feels like a flexibility move that Anthopoulos had in his back pocket. As such, it’s also illustrative of the FO’s estimations re Parsons—that he was DFA’d for Hechavarría, when this move was on the table, demonstrates there wasn’t much hope he’d contribute to the major-league roster.

i called our picking him up and placing a pitcher on the 60-day DL in the other thread. i thought we might wait till he was released to do so though. Funny it happened hours after my post today about it, lol.

A team without a true backup in CF claimed a CFer on waivers.

That limb was pretty thick you went out on.
