    GWINNETT Falls in four games

    GAME ONE
    Columbus 5, Gwinnett 4

Each team scored three runs in the first inning, but the promised shootout never materialized.

Austin Riley (two-run shot) and Adam Duvall (solo) homered in that inning, but the only other RBI came from catcher JR Murphy in the sixth. By then, Columbus had rebounded for a 5-3 lead.

Tucker Davidson had a shocking bad start for Stripers, allowing eight hits and all five runs (four earned) in 3.2 innings. Rowen, Phifer and Dayton followed up with 5.1 innings of three-hit shutout ball, but the damage had been done.

Columbus starer Peoples rebounded from the homers to last 5.1 innings, and his bullpen allowed one hit in 3.2 innings.

Columbus outhit Gwinnett 11-6. Attendance: 1,249.

    GAME TWO
    Columbus 7, Gwinnett 3

A four-run fourth inning wiped out a 2-0 Gwinnett lead and ruined Ian Anderson's moment in the sun.

Anderson wound up pitching 5.1 innings, allowing six hits, five runs (earned) and a homer while walking three and striking out four.

DePaula also gave up a late homer, while LeMarre led off the game with a solo shot (natch) off Columbus starter and winner Logan Allen, who allowed only two runs in his 5.1 innings.

A key run was also given up by hired gun Caleb Theilbar, who was acquired in time to make exactly one appearance for the Stripers. (Aside: this should not be allowed in AAA since you can do it in the majors, make it a callup or go shorthanded.)

Pache had the only other RBI, while Waters, Lopez and Blanco all had doubles. Gwinnett was outhit 10-7.

FYI: Attendance at Cool-Ray Field was 1,503.

    GAME THREE
    Gwinnett 10, Columbus 6

Before the game, Braves gutted the lineup by recalling Duvall and Riley.

Pedro Florimon batted cleanup and had three hits and two runs scored.

But -- Pache this! -- grand slam in the third and five RBI on a 1-for-4 night. Back to back five-run innings put Kyle Wright on EZ Street: 6 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 6 K, HR.

Dayton blew up in relief, but Weigel nailed it all down with 2.1 innings of hitless relief.

And Murphy? That defense-only catcher? 2-for-4 including a homer good for 3 RBI. For Columbus, Chiang eight ER in two-plus innings.

Announced attedance: 10,100. Stripers obviously like playing to a crowd.

    GAME FOUR
    Columbus 5, Gwinnett 4

Two runs in bottom of 8th off bullpen wasted Bryce Wilson effort (6 IP, 10 H, 3 ER)

    Pache 3-4, RBI (2 doubles)

HR by Pedro Florimon and Jack Lopez

    Stripers outhit 13-10

    Attendance: 7,994
