Luckily for everyone who cares about the Braves, it almost certainly won't be AA.
I'd be interested to see what you'd offer to keep him around.

I'd offer 3/70 or there abouts. I'm guessing he gets a guaranteed 4th year though.

Yeah, that first inning double steal tonight convinced me I was wrong to vote no.

I'd like to change my vote.

I can't believe he stole 3rd on Realmuto, but it was probably more on Smyly.

I dont think he gets 4 guaranteed with the QO attatched, but he probably gets 3 guaranteed.

I think AA COULD go 3, most likely not 4 years though.

This is getting tight. Other than Freeman being healthy, this is the thing I now want most in the regular season. And not just because of the whole 40/40 thing. Mainly I want it because if Acuna barely misses it like this, I could easily see him slumping big time in the playoffs. Whether you care about it or not, it is obvious he has been pressing to try to get it. That means HE cares about it. The rest of our games in the regular season no longer matter all that much. He should be running every time he gets on base.

Acuna should shut down this whole 40-40 project. At this point the priority has to be being healthy and in good form for the playoffs.

Easier said than done. He's 21. And, like I said, I truly think this is part of the being "in good form for the playoffs" in regards to the mental aspect.

It's hard to steal bases at will. That's why I didn't think he was going to get there. Everything has to be perfect - a single or walk with nobody on. The guy behind him seeing pitches (twice on Friday Albies got a single on the first or second pitch he saw, with Acuna on first). And then actually succeeding. This is why steals tend to come in bunches. Those things have to line up just right. It's toughto be so close, even though in reality 40 is an arbitrary number. How many 40/37 guys have there been in MLB history?

this is where the veteran laidership on the team has a role

I guess so. But it's still extremely doable. I don't see why he needs to be told to move on...rather, you want the veteran laidership there if he fails to get him past it. Until such a time, he should be encouraged and facilitated, in my opinion.

It seems like most of those who get close but not quite there are short on the HR side. Beltran, for example, had a 38/42 season. Vlad had a 39/40 season. Kemp had a 39/40. Soriano had a 39/41. Bonds had one the other way with a 40/37. Johnson had a 36/41. Davis had a 37/50. Bobby Bonds had a 37/41 and a 39/43. Mays had a 36/40. So, it looks like Bonds might be the only one who has got so close and missed like that on the steals side of things. But I probably missed someone.

I think he’s been pressing too. If he can get those last 3 sb I think he’ll relax and go on a tear.

That's exactly what I think. There's already been a tick in the right direction once he finally hit #40.
