only a small number of teams have the expected surplus value to even have a chance to make that kind of a trade...the Rays for one

Acuna probably has the highest trade value in baseball given his age/contract, there isnt a price that is even remotely fair.

Trade him to the Mets, in that case.

Best trade value in baseball history since free agents became a thing.

The Rays could offer us Franco, Mckay, Liberatore, Brandon Lowe, and some change and that still probably wouldn't be enough.

Only trade I'd consider for Acuna is Trout, Tron, and cash.

Acuña is basically untradeable. I say this not because no one would want him but because with the contract we have him signed to he is one of if not the single most valuable asset in baseball. It would be almost impossible to extract fair value for him in a trade. Acuna is going nowhere.

    Just for ****s and giggles:

It's not at all crazy to think we'll get about $275 million in surplus value above his salary the next nine years. So let's see, to meet that bar, we'd need to get something like Vladdy Jr. plus 3 or 4 of the top 5 prospects in baseball.

Using the same rough, back of the napkin guesses for Albies comes up at around $225 million in surplus value, so he could be had for Vladdy Jr plus maybe 2 of the top 4 prospects in baseball.

And if you add them together, just make it a ten team trade and get the top nine, maybe? Seriously, it's realistically impossible to get this value.

The Rays might be the only team able to swing a fair deal for Acuna. I think quite a bit would have to be added to the four you list.

It would be hard to to pull the trigger and wander is far away but not sure how anyone would give up more.

Obvious injury notes aside I think Glasnow could be the best pitcher in baseball next year.

Rays are the only team who can come close, but they're too smart to unload everything they have, not that it would ever happen.

The Padres could probably get pretty close as well. If they offered us something like Gore, Trammell, Campusano, Abrams, Mejia, and Renfroe then I think that would get fairly close. But in reality there isn't a package that we'd be willing to accept than any other team would be willing to offer. Acuna is going to be a Brave for the duration of his contract. If something weird happens, I could maybe see him being traded in the last year or two of it, but not before then.

Good point—maybe he can be used as sweetener to help unload Acuña.

Albies May have more surplus value on paper, but according to Kiley, GMs place more trade value on elite players that concentrate many WAR into a single roster spot more than the surplus value model suggests
