I'd do Newk over Wright for sure, and not buying we're in on Bumgarner.
Wait. Hold up. Last I heard we were sitting at around 130 million in committed salary for ‘20. Rumors are Bumgarner wants 5/100. Even if we somehow sign him for let’s say 18 million a year, and forget the remainder of the contract, now are sitting at ~148 million in salary for the year and still have yet to address 3rd base and quite possibly corner outfield? We’re not punting both of those positions. Hell, AA came out today and say he’s looking for a big bat to fill 3rd or outfield. I call shenanigans on Heyman’s tweet.
I think Bumgarner's group is leaking we are interested to drive his price up. We know the rumors don't come from AAs side.
Padres willing to throw in a prospect to unload Will Myers
Forever Fredi
If you have an extra 20 million per year for the next three years this looks like a prime opportunity to fleece the Padres. I’m sure Peller is itching to make a dumb free agent signing and needs some cash.
Taking Meyers would probably buy at least 2 of the Padres top 10.
This feels like the year the Padres are putting all thier chips in so they can field an 82 win team.

I think we are "in" on MadBum the same way we were "in" on Manny/Harper last off-season. If he's willing to take a shorter contract at a higher AAV, I think AA would absolutely do it (may be 2/50 or something along those lines). But I would be flabbergasted, to say the least, if AA were to give MadBum 4/5 years at ~20 million in AAV.
If MadBum goes the DK route and prices himself out of the market, I'm sure we'll be have the same interest we had in DK last June.

Go get him! Load up on defense and then let the young players get better.
Yeah lets go give a ton of money per year to a guy who can't pitch out of San Fran... brilliant.

Anyone thinking we're going to get Bryant for spare parts is fooling themselves. I could see pieces like Riley and Inciarte in a deal but only as secondary pieces. I think the Cubs would probably demand Pache or, if we're lucky, Anderson. Plus probably another useful piece.
They could demand Pache but they won't get close to that return from any team with how expensive Bryant will cost the next 1 or 2 years. Kinda weird to call Riley spare parts... he's a year removed from being a top 30 prospect who has already shown some success in the majors. Inciarte is a starting caliber CFer on a bargain deal and one of the best defenders at the position. When healthy last year he was very good overall again. These are not spare parts.
